The Ellen DeGeneres Show is set to end after 19 long seasons.  The award-winning daytime entertainment talk show produced by Warner Bros.’ Telepictures, has struggled with ratings during its pandemic-impacted 2020-21 season.

The Popular Talk Show Has Struggled With Controversies And Ratings Over The Past Year

The fall in ratings was preceded by a number of reports about a toxic working environment on the show last spring and summer which prompted an internal investigation by Warner Bros and an apology from DeGeneres to her staff.

Ellen Indicated A Few Years Ago That She Might Be Ending The Show, But The News Has Now Become Official

DeGeneres had hinted that she was considering ending Emmy’s winning show in 2019 but signed a new three-year deal which extended the program through 2022.

The announcement that the show would be ending next year, broke on early Wednesday morning through a leak to the tabloid, The Daily Mail, hindering DeGeneres’ and Warner Bros.’s plans of announcing the news on their own terms. It’s expected that the talk show host will address the impending end of her show during the episode she will be taping later today.

The Show’s Producer Warner Bros. Published A Statement About The News

In a statement to Deadline, Mike Darnell, President, Warner Bros. Unscripted Television, said “ “Although all good things must come to an end, you still have hope that the truly great things never will. The Ellen Show started as the little program that could and became an absolute phenomenon. Over the years, it established itself as the premier destination for both superstars and incredible heartfelt human interest stories.

He continued, “The show and Ellen brought comedy, joy, happiness, comfort (and dancing!) to countless millions every day for 18 years. It was and is an indelible piece of the television landscape, and it will be sorely missed.”
