The Young And The Restless Comings & Goings: Telma Hopkins Joins Y&R Cast

“The Young and the Restless” comings and goings reveal Y&R will introduce a new character next month as Telma Hopkins joins the cast of the soap. The actress will reunite with Bryton James, who played her son in the 80s/90s sitcom titled, “Family Matters.”

Hopkins will take on the role of Denise Tolliver, a private detective who brings shocking information about Amanda Sinclair’s (Mishael Morgan) past. The actress is set to make her debut on June 1. It’ll be the first time she’ll share the same screen with James since “Family Matters” went off the air in 1998.

The actress is extremely excited to join the cast of the soap especially because she’s a long-time fan of “The Young and the Restless.” Not only does she love the soap’s intriguing storylines but she also knows many of the people who worked there including Marguerite Ray, Victoria Rowell, and the late Kristoff St. John.

Y&R Spoilers – Telma Hopkins Called Bryton James Before Saying Yes

Hopkins revealed that she called James right away when she was asked to come into the show.

“So I did call Bryton before I said yes, to talk to him about it and ask, you know if he thought I could handle it without having a nervous breakdown,” she shared.

“But after that, I was really excited. It’s a different genre for me, for sure, but I’ve watched the show enough where I felt like I was walking into a family, with people that I know,” she added.

When asked what it was like to work with James again, Hopkins said, “It is kind of like coming home.”

“It is the full circle. I don’t feel I have ever lost touch with him but certainly, it is nice to look across a room and see that smiling face that I am so used to. It feels like home, like family, like Family Matters,” she said.

The Young and the Restless News – Bryton James Opens Up About Working With Tema Hopkins Again

James also shared his experience in working with Hopkins again. He said, “Acting felt effortless and comfortable when we stepped on the stage together.”

“When the scene started we had to act like we didn’t know each other but it has reminded me and made me feel really grateful about how long I have been able to do this because Telma is one of the reasons that I have enjoyed it for 30 years,” he explained.

“To step on my first stage with her and have Telma be the one to make me feel so comfortable and at home back then, it is very special,” he continued.

It’s a happy reunion indeed between the two behind the scenes. Fans have to stay tuned to find out what kind of drama Hopkins will bring as Denise Tolliver.
