British royal family news shows that speculation about the changes that Prince Charles will make when he ascends the throne is a hot topic. He will follow his mother, 95-year old Queen Elizabeth, upon her death as he is first in line to the throne.
She is the longest-reigning monarch in British history and he has had plenty of time to consider how he wants to shape his regal legacy.
Much has been made about how he wants to streamline and update the Royal Family and here we look at three ways he may make his mark.
Royal Family News – How Will Prince Charles Make His Mark?
According to a constitutional expert there are several ways Charles could slimline the monarchy.
It’s thought that senior members of the Royal Family are safe from expungement. That would include Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, who are expected to keep their positions. But lesser stars in the royal firmament could be, “pushed into retirement,” accord to Express.
Royal expert Iain MacMarthanne told Express.co.uk, “The fact is, if recent decades are anything to go by, we will never be happy or content, the monarchy will always cost too much irrespective of numbers for some, and if there are not too many knocking about then it will be that there are too few to do for us what we want for others.”

He went on to say, “Once again this is why it’s more important to know and understand what Prince Charles’s vision is for the monarchy more than who will be a member of it.”
He hinted that Prince Charles may have no choice but to refresh the institution in order for it to survive.
MacMarthanne said, “Unless the vision changes then multiple members will be required. So who will be disinvited? According to MacMarthanne there are three ways Charles can achieve his goal: “invite low-key royals to retire, actively make them redundant, or remodel the monarchy by following Sweden’s example.”

Royal Family News – Will Charles Copy Sweden?
“In the event of Prince Charles ascending the throne who can tell today how, or even if, he will go about slimming numbers down,” he noted.
He added, “He could let nature take its course; he could invite those concerned to retire; he could actively make them ‘redundant’; or he may decide to completely revise and codify the structure of the monarchy and who is a working member of it, inspired, perhaps, by recent changes in Sweden.”
