Netflix’s The Witcher Season 2 will see a bit of a change with Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill wants to show that Geralt is more than a ruthless brute with better-than-average sword skills. Why does the Superman star want to transform his Netflix character?
Why The Witcher Season 2 Will Show Another Side of Geralt Of Rivia
Henry Cavill wants his character in The Witcher to be more authentic to the book series. This is why he lobbied to show a different side of him in Season 2. Speaking to Total Film via Games Radar, the Jersey-born actor revealed that he wanted to follow the original Witcher series written by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. That means that the “grumpy snowman” will be more vocal. In addition, more intellectual.
“This season, I really wanted to make sure that we represented the book’s Geralt more accurately, and that we saw him speak more.” Cavill then explained more of what he pushed for. “I pushed really, really hard for that.” Does this mean he’s cheery? “I wouldn’t say cheery. He’s still Geralt of Rivia, but he’s definitely coming across as more of an intellectual.”
Part of that wisdom definitely needs to come through as Geralt will be busy training the Child of Surprise, Ciri (Freya Allan). Geralt will be protecting her while training her.
However, there are still a lot of monsters in the preview. Cavill admits, “It’s a hard life, monster hunting… I wouldn’t recommend it.”
Henry Cavill Does His Own Stunts In The Witcher
When Henry Cavill discusses how hard monster hunting is, he is speaking from experience. He not only portrays Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, but he also does all of his own stunts. He studies the choreography and welds the sword with a lot of power.
That means he needs to be fit to do all that he needs to do to portray Geralt. It also means that he also could deal with risk. One of those risks is getting hurt. Back in December, when they were filming most of his fighting scenes, Henry seriously injured his hamstring. This was a potentially career-changing injury, it was that severe.
Because The Witcher Season 2 had so many delays due to Covid, he clearly didn’t want his injury to keep them waiting. The hamstring tear required some rest, then physical therapy before his grinding filming schedule.

Henry Cavill Plays The Video Game
For the few that are not aware, Henry Cavill is a total geek. PC gaming is a huge part of his life. That is why playing Geralt was so important to him. He loved the game and wanted to be part of the Netflix series.
So, it is of no surprise that during lockdown, he played The Witcher 3, but at the hardest level. He believes you learn best when you start at the most difficult level. “I decided to put it on the hardest difficulty possible to play, which I’ve done before, and it was really quite stressful! I forgot quite how stressful it was.” But is it more stressful than playing Geralt?
Netflix drops The Witcher Season 2 on Friday, December 17, worldwide.
