British royal family news shows that Princes Harry and William, reportedly estranged, could have made peace recently but apparently blew it. The allegation comes in a titillating new book, Brothers and Wives by Christopher Andersen, which details the missed opportunity.

According to Andersen, the July 1 dedication of a statue of their mother at Kensington Palace would have been the ideal moment for a kiss and makeup moment. That day would have been Diana’s sixtieth birthday and the boys had commissioned the statue together, in happier times. Surely the sight of their mutual ambition, a statue honoring their mother, would result in a mending of fences?

The brothers were shown on their p’s and q’s, no scowl on Harry’s face, no look of upset on William’s countenance. The party that day was small, with Diana’s sisters, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes, and brother Earl Spencer present. Noticeably absent was Diana’s ex-husband Charles and the Queen.

Kate Middleton was rumored to have been sidelined because Meghan Markle was not present. It was a very adult affair with none of Diana’s grandchildren present, even though the statue depicts her with three young children.
