LaMonica Garrett Confirms What Everyone’s Been Thinking About Sam Elliot’s Behavior On ‘1883’ Set

While Yellowstone has turned out to be a shooting star when it comes to action-packed dramas, Paramount Plus is set to premiere another hit show, Yellowstone prequel, 1883, in just three days on December 19.

1883 tells the story of how the current members of the Dutton family came to be on the sprawling cattle ranch in Montana. The story follows the 19th-century Duttons from a ranch in Texas across the plains of the Midwest in search of a better life.

Though Yellowstone has an incredible cast, in its own right, the prequel boasts a positively astounding cast of blockbuster actors, including Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Billy Bob Thornton.

Leading the pack of amazing actors is Sam Elliott, playing hardened cowboy Shea Brannon who never rides without his trusted partner Thomas (Lamonica Garrett) nearby. The two actors have managed to form a strong bond on the set and off, so, he knows a lot about the seasoned actor.

During a recent roundtable interview, Garrett confirmed what everyone has been suspecting about his seasoned costar. “Sam’s a great dude,” he said, adding that Elliott embraced him from the start and that he has a knack for calming the nerves of “everyone that he comes in contact with.”

Garrett refers to Elliot’s “steadiness and work ethic” as a key component in what makes 1883 so watchable. “He’s the first one there, and the last one to leave,” Garrett said of the seasoned actor.

Garrett, a star in his own right, who has starred in Sons of Anarchy, Designated Survivor, and as Mar Novu/Monitor and Anti-Monitor in the CW’s Arrowverse, said of his on-screen partner, “He’s inspiring to watch. He’s a great person and a great actor.”

It can’t be easy to avoid being star-struck in front of actors of Sam Elliot’s caliber after having starred in such memorable films as Tombstone, The Big Lebowski, and Gettysburg just to name a few. “Sometimes I have to remember that we are working together because I get caught up in watching him while I’m in a scene with him,” Garrett admits.

It’s not a one-way bromance though as it seems Elliot’s had some good words to say about Garrett too. Of working with Lamonica Elliot says, “When I get with LaMonica and I look at those eyes and I look at that mass that is underneath that hat of his and listen to that voice, he’s rock solid.”
