It seems like “Grey’s Anatomy” is here to stay, even as some people look forward to its end. One of those people is “Grey’s Anatomy’s” very own Ellen Pompeo, who plays the lead character Meredith Grey in the hit series.

The hit medical drama is now in its 18th season and yet its ending is nowhere in sight, even as rumors of its finale begin to gain momentum.
In a new interview with Insider, Pompeo disclosed that she’s ready to have “Grey’s Anatomy” finally end after 18 seasons.
“I’ve been trying to focus on convincing everybody that it should end,” she said. “I feel like I’m the super naive one who keeps saying, ‘But what’s the story going to be, what story are we going to tell?’ “
Despite her pleas to end the movie, she revealed that the “Grey Anatomy” team are not looking forward to ending the series as long as fans keep watching.

This isn’t the first time that Pompeo has been vocal about the need for the show to end because they’ve exhausted every epic storyline and it’s simply just dragging on.
In September, she told Entertainment Tonight that she’s been “trying to get away for years.”
“It’s not because I haven’t been trying,” she said of leaving Meredith Grey behind. “I have strong relationships at the network [ABC] and they have been very, very good to me, and have incentivized me to stay.”
“Grey’s Anatomy” Spoilers – Creator Shonda Rhimes Says She’s Run Out Of Every Possible Ending
Earlier this year, Shonda Rhimes said that she put a lot of thought into different alternative endings to the epic drama, but has now basically used up all her options.
“I’ve written the end of that series, I want to say, a good eight times,” Rhimes, 51, told Variety. “I was like, ‘And that will be the end!’ Or, ‘That’ll be the final thing that’s ever said or done!’ And all of those things have already happened. So I give up on that, you know what I mean?”
In 2005, Rhimes brought “Grey’s Anatomy” to ABC, and was replaced by Krista Vernoff as showrunner in 2017. After she exited “Grey’s Anatomy”, she entered into a massive deal with Netflix.
As for when and how the series ends, Rhimes revealed that she will play a big part in the decision. And while she may not “be the person who decides, like, what the final scene is,” she knows that she’s the person who gets to decide when the show should come to an end.
“If you’d ask me this question three years ago, or prior to Krista arriving, I would have said, ‘Yes, I can tell you exactly how it’s going to end,’ ” Rhimes said. “But once you hand off the ball for real, it’s just different. So I don’t know yet.”
However, Rhimes will be the one that decides the fate of “Grey’s Anatomy” and she’s good with taking full responsibility for it.
“Am I the person who decides when the show is over? Yes,” she added. “And I take full responsibility for that when or if everybody gets mad at me.”
