Royal Family News: Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall Awarded By Queen Highest Honor Possible

British royal family news reveals that Queen Elizabeth has chosen to publicly recognize her daughter in law Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall with the highest honor possible according to the Daily Mail. Due to her outstanding, “service to the sovereign,” she will be made a Royal Lady of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, the oldest and most senior of the Orders of Chivalry in Britain.
Buckingham Palace made the announcement last night. This appointment is taken as, “a royal seal of approval for the loyalty and discretion Camilla has shown since her marriage to the Prince of Wales in 2005.”
Royal Family News – Camilla Receives High Honor
The move has renewed speculation that Camilla could receive the coveted title Queen when Prince Charles takes the throne. It has been speculated that she would be titled Princess Consort, owing to the fact that many royals fans do not take lightly her part in the disintegration of Charles’ marriage to his first wife the late Diana.
Royal Family News – What Title Will Camilla Receive?
Prince Charles himself has made it known he wants his wife to be named queen. And there has been chatter that the Queen is impressed by how Camilla has conducted herself in her public role.
With the news of Camilla’s naming, it was also announced that Baroness Amos will be made a Lady Companion of the Order of the Garter. She is the person from an ethnic minority to be appointed.
She is a Labour politician and diplomat who has served as UN Under-Secretary-General for humanitarian affairs and British High Commissioner to Australia.
The Order of the Garter was established by King Edward III in 1348.
Royal Family News – The Queen Is Bestowing Titles
It is a rule that the number of Knights and Ladies Companion is limited to two dozen at any one time.
There is not a limit on the number of royal members, however. Originally the order’s members were aristocrats but now include men and women from a variety of backgrounds who are recognized for their public service, their contribution to national life, or their personal service to the sovereign according to the Daily Mail.

This is an honor that is given by the queen, without interference from the Government. The patron saint of the order is St. George and the spiritual home is St. George’s Chapel at Windsor. Vacancies are typically announced on St. George’s Day and rarely on New Year’s.
