The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) was pitched by Ashland Locke (Richard Burgi). The Lockeness Monster claims to have shed his reputation due to the cancer he seemingly beat.

Would TPTB approve of a storyline that has a prominent character lie about having cancer? If so, then the storyline will be tone-deaf, considering that every single viewer’s life has been impacted in some way by the real-life worldwide health issue.

Among the more unbelievable aspects of an assumed reveal, where Ashland is exposed as a liar, would be a doctor, who was also his best man, somehow not detecting the scam for many months.

Young And The Restless Spoilers – A Way To Save Face While Also Creating Drama

Various alternative paths can be taken if Ashland is tagged as lying to his wife, Victoria Newman Locke (Amelia Heinle). One would involve the cancer scare not being as severe as has been believed to date.

Assume that Ashland truly learned he had cancer last year. He would not have pushed such a terrible lie on Victoria, and the show would not have conned the audience.

However, it is reasonable to believe that Ashland subsequently learned his condition was downgraded from terminal to manageable. He may have been scheming to employ a hostile takeover of Newman Enterprises, later fell in love with Victoria, and no longer wanted to target the company she runs.

Y&R Spoilers – Apparent Clues Tip Viewers Off?

Just as Ashland merged his life with Victoria’s, the fans could buy that he wanted to merge his company into Newman. Ashland’s rationalized keeping the truth from Victoria, which led to him claiming that the experimental Peruvian treatment worked.

The audience has not seen Ashland meeting with doctors other than Nate. That leaves plenty of liar’s leeway for Burgi’s character to have created a narrative.

Victoria did not provide specifics about her trip to Peru with Ashland. This pairing could have been shown in a simple setting that was said to be in that country. But the Locke’s were not, which felt odd.

The above scenario was also used when they traveled to New York in the recent past, with their trip merely being mentioned and then discussed when they returned.

Ashland has no friends in Genoa City, Wisconsin, except for his wife and Nate. So, Burgi’s character is either using Nate as a strategic pawn, bonded with him honestly from the beginning or was using and now trusts him.

Nate is one of the few people who have personal access to Ashland. So, the likelihood that Dominic’s character would learn about Ashland’s duplicity is naturally higher than that of another Genoa City, Wisconsin resident.

Robert Newman’s (Ashland) February debut, in the recast role, allows Y&R to deliver a climax to this storyline if speculation about Ashland’s deviousness plays out.
