Yellowstone – Kevin Costner Makes Directorial Return After Nearly 20 Years

Not one to sit back in and watch, Costner will be starring in, producing, and directing the film. He’s known for producing and appearing in some of the most memorable movies of our time. Many will recall one of his most memorable films, the 1990 film “Dances with Wolves,” which garnered seven Academy Awards and won the actor Best Director.

Another major film the director was involved in, “The Postman” didn’t fare nearly as well. However, a third film from the producer, actor, and director, “Open Range” which was released in 2003 did rather well.

Now, after nearly 20 years, the “Untouchables” star is doing it again. According to Deadline, Costner, 67, will be starring in, producing, and directing what is being called his “passion project.” This time the “Wyatt Earp” producer co-wrote the film with Scottish filmmaker Jon Baird.

“Horizon” is being brought to us by Warner Bros Pictures, New Line, as well as Costner’s own, Territory Pictures. Warner Bros Group chairman Toby Emmerich revealed in a statement that his studio was thrilled to partner with Costner on this directorial endeavor.

“Kevin’s ambitious vision for this story is the perfect crystallization of his affinity for the American West and passion to bring this turning point in its history to life with all the human drama, cultural complexity, and immense scope that it merits,” the statement read.

Costner, for his part, announced the upcoming film in a January 2022 tweet. In the announcement, the actor said that his return as director has “been a long time coming,” and that the star, “couldn’t be more excited” to share his project with the world.

Yellowstone – What’s ‘Horizon’ About?

As we stated earlier, “Horizon” is an epic film that’s set in the American West. The story spans 15 years and begins just prior to the Civil War expansion (Between 1845-48). Costner says the film will be chronicling the historically significant era.
