This Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation trial has been going on for weeks, as Depp was called up to testify, Amber too, then around Friday of last week, the case was about rounding up, and closing arguments were also heard. Currently, we’re waiting on the seven people on the jury to come up with a verdict.
As the Jury goes on to make legal deliberations, neither Johnny Depp nor Amber Heard is expected to appear in the courtroom of Fairfax, VA.
The weeks-long trial began on 11 April. Following the closing arguments on 27 May, the jury began deliberating on the six weeks of testimony before being sent home for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Johnny Depp — Reason For The Trial Verdict
The short story is, that Depp is suing his ex-wife Heard for $50 million based on a 2018 op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post chronicling her experiences as a domestic abuse survivor. While Depp’s name wasn’t mentioned, his lawyers maintain that it was clear, based on how the timeline in Heard’s article matched the timeline of the couple’s relationship, who the piece was referring to, and that the piece damaged Depp’s career and reputation.
Depp testified that Disney dropped him from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise days after. Per his manager’s testimony, that meant losing $22.5 million to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow.
Heard also filed a $100 million countersuit. Her team alleges that she was defamed when Depp and his legal team called her allegations false (Depp’s team referred to them as a “sexual violence hoax”).
Johnny Depp — Depp’s First Appearance On Stage Since The Defamation Trial
Apparently, Depp is moving on with his life. The star of “Murder On Orient Express” is currently in the UK, and he made a surprise appearance on stage on Sunday night to perform alongside Jeff Beck at a gig in Sheffield.
According to stunned onlookers, Depp sang his cover of Isolation, which was originally a John Lennon song and was released by the star and Beck in 2020.

Taking to Twitter to share a clip of the performance, one user wrote: “Just been to see Jeff Beck at Sheffield City Hall, he had a surprise special guest, Johnny Depp!!”
Before becoming an actor, Depp began his career as a musician. He formed the supergroup Hollywood Vampires with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry in 2015. He played the guitar in the band and worked with Beck on music throughout lockdown.
His surprise appearance in England seems to suggest that Depp will stay away from Virginia for the verdict. Excited fans have speculated that he could continue to tour with Beck, who is set to perform at the Royal Albert Hall on 30 and 31st May.
