Kim Kardashian has faced legal battles before. But the lawsuit for her new beauty product line, Skkn by Kim, has become particularly controversial for two reasons. First, Kardashian got sued by a small business owner who many see as getting bullied by Kanye West’s estranged wife. And second, her lawyer feels that the lawsuit threatens the “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” (KUWTK) star’s name and reputation.
Find out what the woman who decided to sue Kim claims. And learn how Kardashian responded. Keep up with Kim Kardashian’s latest legal war below.
Kim Kardashian – Faces Lawsuit Over New Skincare Line
Meet Cyndie Lunsford, owner of the Brooklyn studio Beauty Concepts. Because Lunsford claims she has owned the Skkn trademark since 2018, she has sued Kim Kardashian, who recently unveiled her own skincare line, Skkn. However, Kardashian’s lawyer Michael Rhodes believes that the lawsuit might be deceptive, reported Geo TV.
Rhodes contended that the lawsuit “is not what it seems.” And he discussed the cease and desist letter that Lunsford sent Kim. However, Rhodes took time to recognize that Cyndie represents the small business arena. But he also expressed outrage at the lawsuit, calling it a celebrity-driven “shakedown effort”.

“We applaud Ms. Lunsford for being a small business owner and following her dreams,” Rhodes told Page Six. “But that doesn’t give her the right to wrongfully claim that we’ve done something wrong. In its letter, Beauty Concepts claimed to own rights to a logo made up of SKKN+, and had just filed for trademark protection for that logo,” noted the attorney.
Attorney Attacks Lawsuit As Threatening Kim Kardashian’s Reputation
Because of the difference between Kim’s skincare line and Beauty Concepts’ business, Rhodes also questioned the legitimacy of the lawsuit. For instance, the attorney called Lunsford’s operations “a one-person shop offering facials from a single Brooklyn location. The salon had no signage and was by appointment only. To our knowledge, Beauty Concepts sold no products under the SKKN+ name.”
However, despite the distinctions, Beauty Concepts went to the United States Patent and Trademark Office. But that office “rejected Beauty Concepts’ own SKKN+ mark saying that ‘skkn’ just means ‘skin,’” stated Rhodes. And the lawyer also alleged that Kim had tried repeatedly to discuss options. But Beauty Concepts “didn’t really engage with us beyond demanding a lot of money,” claimed Rhodes.
As a result, the attorney summed up the case as “less about the law of trademarks and more about trying to leverage a settlement by threatening to harm Ms. Kardashian’s name and reputation.” And Rhodes added a warning. “That’s not going to work,” he cautioned.
However, Beauty Concepts’ owner Lunsford believes that she created her brand first. As a result, she feels that her lawsuit represents small business. “I have painstakingly built my successful small business with my own sweat equity, hard work, and research. It’s clear that I established my brand first,” insisted Lunsford.
