Even though George R.R. Martin himself announced the news of the Game of Thrones spin-off series House of The Dragon, he has no plans to write for the show. Martin revealed that he doesn’t want to write for the series until he’s finished with Winds of Winter. Game of Thrones fans knows he’s been hard at work on Winds of Winter, the sixth novel in the book series. Martin has been working on this book since 2011, and fans have been waiting for its release ever since.
HBO also announced that it has greenlit the Game of Thrones spin-off series, House of the Dragon. The prequel is set to take place 300 years before any of the other events on Game of Thrones took place. It will follow the House Targaryen in an epic mix of battles, drama, and love triangles. The show is expected to have 10 episodes, which is set to premiere in 2021.
Game of Thrones fans has already been kept on the edge of their seats for the past few days. Just because Game of Thrones ended earlier this year, doesn’t mean that this saga is over yet. In the past few days alone, the popular fantasy series has been making headlines for canceling a female-led Game of Thrones prequel, announcing a completely different prequel, and a controversial panel that featured creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
Miguel Sapochnik will be responsible for this new series. Game of Thrones fans is already familiar with his work, as he has worked on some of the best episodes. Sapochnik will take on the role of showrunner for the House of the Dragon alongside writer Ryan Condal. So, fans will have to do without Martin’s epic writing on this series.
So, why is George R.R. Martin having such a hard time working on Winds of Winter? There’s a good reason as to why this book is taking so long for him to write. Ever since A Dance With Dragons was released and Game of Thrones made its debut and ended its story, Winds of Winter kept getting pushed back. It’s known as the sixth and last book in the series.
The dragons are coming…back. We have a green light for a GAME OF THRONES successor show… HOUSE OF THE DRAGON is the title and needless to say it will be centered on House Targaryen and based upon Archmaester Gyldayn’s imaginary history FIRE & BLOOD. https://t.co/FNSh0PFv59 pic.twitter.com/0Jm2f5sGYD

But its release date is still a mystery. Winds of Winter was originally slated to release in 2017, and later again in 2018. The constant delays prompted Martin to stop making predictions about its release. He simply stated that it’ll be done when he’s finally done working on it. It turns out that Martin is struggling to focus on the story.
