British royal family news shows that today Kate the Princess of Wales had a surprise engagement when she greeted Royal Navy sailors at Windsor Castle. All were delighted when the future queen consort welcomed the sailors from HMS Glasgow.
Kate was given sponsorship of HMS Glasgow last June. Today she learned more about the sailors’ roles and the ship itself, and in a statement on Twitter the Prince and Princess of Wales’ account acknowledged the special meetup.

Various pictures of the event were posted with the caption: “A pleasure to meet some of the @RoyalNavy Ship’s Company of HMS Glasgow, learning more about their roles and what’s next on the route to getting her in the water.”
It was during a visit to Glasgow in June 2021 that Prince William made the announcement that Kate was given sponsorship of the Royal Navy frigate.
At that time he said, “Her Majesty the Queen has approved the appointment of my wife Catherine as sponsor of the superb ship we see taking shape outside – HMS Glasgow. I know that Catherine will be delighted to join you here in Glasgow for the naming ceremony in due course.”

The naval event came on the heels of Kate’s visit on Tuesday with volunteers and members of the congregation at St. Thomas Church in Swansea. It marked her first visit back to Wales since inheriting her new title, the Princess of Wales.
Over the course of 24 months the church has seen its role expand to include a food bank, care for homeless people, plus a non-profit café and community training kitchen. Swansea Baby Basics baby bank, a project that distributes items to vulnerable mothers and newborns, also operates out of the church base.
Kate Middleton talked to a group of older worshippers to say: “What’s so wonderful about this place is that there is such a good mixture of young and old. It’s extraordinary. You have 90-year-olds as well as youngsters. It’s a real family organization.”

She added, “We need places like this to bring people together, places where people can come and engage. It’s what we need post Covid and with the cost of living crisis. Lots of people are too scared to come an engage so it’s wonderful that you go out to see them too. Places like this are so needed. They bring people together, help them to connect, it’s what we have missed since Covid. All gathering together under one roof.”
