Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley apparently don’t really know best when it comes to finances. Because the stars of Chrisley Knows Best just got sentenced to a combined 19 years in prison. And the U.S. Department of Justice described how Todd and Julie will pay in the wake of their bank fraud and tax evasion case.
But as news broke of their federal custody future, fans of Chrisley Knows Best wondered how the prison sentence would impact the reality TV show. And it doesn’t look good for those who enjoyed the show. Get all the details below.
Chrisley Knows Best Reportedly Ends Amid Prison Sentence
Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley’s sentencing sparked the end of their reality show, Chrisley Knows Best. And the spin-off to the TV show, called Growing Up Chrisley, got cancelled as well. The cancellations follow the sentencing of Todd, 53, and Julie, 49, to 19 total years in prison, reported Page Six.
Todd received a sentence of 12 years in prison. And Julie will spend the next seven years in prison. But their fate doesn’t end in prison. Because of their tax evasion and fraud, Todd and Julie each will get 16 months of probation. “This sentencing serves notice that no matter a person’s celebrity status, there are severe consequences for defrauding the American tax system,” said James E. Dorsey, special agent in charge at the IRS Criminal Investigation Atlanta field office.
Before the sentencing, prosecutors urged even harsher sentences. For instance, they wanted Todd to spend about 22 years in prison. And they recommended that Julie stay behind bars for 12 years. The Chrisley Knows Best co-stars learned about their sentencing after the initial guilty verdict in June.
Todd And Julie Chrisley Created ‘Empire Based On Lies’
Prosecutors slammed Julie and Todd Chrisley in their sentencing memorandum. And they described the Chrisley Knows Best co-stars as building “an empire based on the lie that their wealth came from dedication and hard work.” But their house of cards collapsed as the jury offered a unified verdict.

“The jury’s unanimous verdict sets the record straight,” added the prosecutors. “Todd and Julie Chrisley are career swindlers who have made a living by jumping from one fraud scheme to another.” And the reality TV stars faced guilty verdicts for “lying to banks, stiffing vendors, and evading taxes at every corner,” slammed the prosecutors.
However, the timing of the Chrisley Knows Best co-stars’ show renewals and guilty verdicts caused uncertainty initially. Just a month prior to Todd’s and Julie’s conviction during the summer, Chrisley Knows Best received a renewal for its 10th season. And Growing Up Chrisley received a new life in moving from the USA network to the E channel. But Todd also had planned to host a dating show, Love Limo. However, E canceled that project too.
Tell us what you think. Do you feel that the networks made the right decision to cancel the shows? And do you think that Todd and Julie Chrisley deserve their prison sentences? After you share your views, check back on our site for more reality TV news.
