General Hospital Star Marcus Coloma Releases Another Statement On GH Exit

General Hospital star Marcus Coloma will last be seen on the soap at the end of January, but his exit is starting to be as dramatic as any storyline.

For weeks, social media was abuzz with rumors that Marcus Coloma had been let go from the role of Nikolas Cassadine after three years in the role — especially after he seemed to unfollow his co-stars on social media in one fell swoop.

The news was confirmed just before Christmas with reports that Coloma had refused to tape his last scenes after learning he had been fired from GH. There is no word yet about whether someone else filled in for him or whether those scenes have been scrapped.

There is also no word on whether the character will be written off again or whether he will be recast. Not surprisingly, fans are hoping that Tyler Christopher reprises the role he originated in the 1990s and played until 2016.

Now, Coloma has released an official statement about the departure via his professional representatives. It reads as follows.

“Dear Friends and Fans of Marcus Coloma,
As mentioned in a statement provided by ABC, we wanted to confirm that Marcus “will no longer be playing the role of Nikolas Cassadine. His last airdate will be at the end of January.” Marcus has wrapped his 3-year contract with General Hospital and has thoroughly enjoyed working on the show with such a talented group of actors, writers, producers and directors. Unfortunately, due to health issues with his recent Covid exposure, the network graciously agreed that he should not film the remaining few days of the year.

Marcus has been thrilled to bring nearly 300 episodes of the iconic and complicated character of Nikolas back to life. “I was immediately taken with the family feel of the ensemble cast,” said Coloma. “And I fell in love with the extremely passionate fanbase. Their outpouring of love and excitement, week after week has been unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. I will always be grateful for their kindness and support.”

Currently, Nikolas is involved in a messy storyline in which he impregnated his son’s girlfriend and is keeping her locked in a tower so that the truth never comes out. That sounds like a role that needs an actor playing it right away. Stay tuned to General Hospital weekdays to see if that happens.
