Johnny Depp Looks Regal In New Photos For Latest Film “Jeanne Du Barry”

Johnny Depp is the King… At least in what would be his first major movie following the whole defamation debacle.

An industry source revealed that there are plans to premiere the film “Jeanne du Barry” at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival in May.

Johnny Depp is playing King Louis XV in French writer/director Maïwenn’s upcoming period drama “Jeanne du Barry”.

This is the first major movie that the 59-year-old have been involved in for a while, and it comes on the heels of his settlement with ex wife Amber Heard after what was a very public trial.

In one of the photos, we see Depp in a traditional French regal attire seemingly consoling a woman, who could be his mistress, Jeanne du Barry. If you look closer at the picture, you can see that the hand around the woman in the picture is black, even though there’s no explanation for why this is so, at least for now.

The second picture shows fans a glimpse into the fabulous world of traditional French balls, with the extravagant dresses to boot.

The movie follows the King of France’s last royal mistress Jeanne du Barry, who came from a very poor background but managed to climb the social ladder due to her intelligence, and soon became Louis XV’s favorite companion.

Maïwenn, 46, appears in the movie, alongside Johnny Depp, as the titular character. She also co-wrote the movie in addition to directing it. Additional cast members include Benjamin Lavernhe, Pierre Richard, Melvil Poupaud, Noémie Lvovsky, Pascal Greggory, and India Hair.

Per a report by Deadline, the film was shot within 11 weeks at studios and in famous locations around the country, including the famous Palace of Versailles.

In August, WhyNotProductions and France Télévisions unveiled a first teaser image of Depp as Louis XV. The snap showed Depp’s profile with a blindfold covering his eyes.
