Priscilla Presley is in love with McConaughey’s “great voice”, and according to her, it’s the reason he landed his newest role.

When choosing the right man to voice her late husband in the Netflix animated series – set to portray singer Elvis Presley as a rock ‘n’ roller by day and “ass-kicking vigilante” other times in between – Presley went for a voice with a rare drawl, albeit a recognizable one, since he’s an A-lister on his own account.

“Obviously he has a great voice,” Priscilla, 77, said at the premiere of the show, which she produced alongside John Eddie. “He has that Southern voice. A deep voice.”

She did admit that there were other actors in the list during casting, but that the producers kept coming back to McConaughey because they felt he could offer something special to the role.

“He’s such a professional and he would do a great job speaking for Elvis,” she said. “He has a Southern drawl, and Elvis did too in many ways.”

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Priscilla Presley would voice herself in the action cartoon, set to portray Elvis as a famous musician who got initiated into a government spy agency and now has to balance these two heavily time-tasking duties.

Last month, Netflix released a trailer for the animated movie, which sees a cartoonized version of Elvis attempting to save his country. We’re given a glimpse into the tricky task of balancing his late-night missions with his widespread fame.

“Every once in a while, man accomplishes the impossible,” McConaughey says as Elvis in the teaser. “All it takes is someone with a dream — ’cause when a man dreams, he can change the world.”

Alongside McConaughey, Kaitlin Olson, Johnny Knoxville, Niecy Nash, Don Cheadle and Tom Kenny will lend their voices to the show.
