When Does Netflix’s Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story Premiere?

Netflix’s historical drama series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is all set to premiere on the streamer. The series dropped a fresh trailer and serves as a prequel spin-off to the popular series Bridgerton. The series will expand on the story of Queen Charlotte’s path to power and prominence. So, when does the upcoming spin-off series premiere on Netflix? Keep reading to find out the details!

The spin-off series was first announced back in May 2021 with director Tom Verica and showrunner/writer Shonda Rhimes. While fans saw Queen Charlotte as a fun matchmaker in the first few seasons of the original series, it seems tables have turned for the queen in this prequel. The new series takes us to the time of Charlotte’s own courtship and how she struggled to comes to terms with marrying King George.

Bridgerton

In the prequel, set in the 19th-century Britain that embraced multiculturalism, our protagonist finds herself stuck in an arranged marriage with King George, the most successful and powerful man in the era. While she grapples to come to term with the reality, she later starts to develop strong feelings for her would-be after an encounter in the garden labyrinth of the palace.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story’s new trailer shows Charlotte asking why she was to marry King George. However, her travel companion deflects the question stating that there were fates worse than getting married to the king of England. To this, the king’s mother asserts that it was time for the two families to unite and for Charlotte to have King George’s babies (as many as she can).

As she moves around the hallways of an ornate palace and eats breakfast with a sad look on her face, she only has her footman by her side to spill some tea regarding her soon-to-be-husband. However, her feelings take a 360 turn after see catches glimpses of King George as she attempts to climb the wisteria tree in their garden.

While the trailer did showcase the primary plot of the show, it didn’t reveal a lot of details that can be considered spoilers. By the look of it, the prequel trails a story of a classic arranged-marriage that finds love with time amid a rapid societal shift.

In the series, young Charlotte is played by India Amarteifio while young George is played by Corey Mylchreest from The Sandman fame. If you are a Bridgerton fan, do not forget to binge on Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story as it premieres on Netflix on May 4, 2023.
