Royal family news reveals that King Charles has become wealthier than the late Queen Elizabeth. And the monarch’s net worth stems from some unexpected items in his financial portfolio. For instance, one of the king’s properties includes its own apple juice company.
Find out about King Charles’ fortune. And learn how he amassed so much money. Get all the royal details below.
Learn King Charles’ Net Worth
When the late Queen Elizabeth died at 96, her net worth equaled £370 million, the equivalent of $460 million in U.S. dollars. However, King Charles has achieved a personal net worth of £600 million, equal to $745 million in U.S. dollars.
As a result, the monarch ranks as wealthier than millionaires such as David and Victoria Beckham and Sir Elton John, according to the NY Post.
King Charles enjoys his fortune based on assets in several different categories. First, he owns two private royal estates referred to as the duchies, and the Sandringham Estate and Balmoral Castle. At age 21, King Charles looked after the Duchy of Cornwall. However, after the Queen died, King Charles took control of the Duchy of Lancaster. And his son Prince William then inherited the estate.
During Charles’ time in charge of the Duchy of Cornwall, he achieved an impressive profit. Their yearly earnings grew by 42.6% to £25.4 million. And the duchy’s wealth soared to £1.04 billion. That money comes from renting commercial properties. But an insider shared that Charles became skilled “at tucking away some money from the Duchy” in the wake of an expensive divorce from the late Princess Diana.
King Charles Owns Two ‘Most Valuable Assets’
Assessments reveal that Sandringham Estate and Balmoral Castle rank as King Charles’ “most valuable assets.” However, in addition to the values of £245 million for Sandringham, and £210 million total for Balmoral castle and its estate, the former profits from tourists. Sandringham features safari tours and even has an apple juice company, Sandringham Apple Juice. The late Queen Elizabeth owned both, with King Charles inheriting them after her death.

And thanks to former U.K. prime minister John Major establishing an exemption, King Charles did not owe any inheritance taxes. However, the monarch also profited from his line of foods and produce called Duchy Originals. Those products currently rank number one in organic food and drink brands in the United Kingdom. The foods, such as the Duchy organic oat biscuits, initially were sold in high-end departments stores Harrods and Fortnum & Mason.
However, King Charles then expanded his brand into the mainstream grocery store Waitrose. And he added new products, ranging from beer to gardening tools to herbal medicine, to his company. But royal author Robert Hardman clarified that King Charles’ fortune isn’t as complicated as it might seem.
“A lot of people do get confused about the royal finances — wrongly thinking that [the royal family] personally own the Crown Estate and the duchies,” said Hardman. “In all honesty their financial arrangements really aren’t as complex as [those of] many royal families and rulers in other countries, which are often far more opaque. Our monarchy really isn’t as wealthy as many people would believe. I certainly don’t think the King is a billionaire.”
