In the opinion of some social media commentators, the story Meghan Markle sold to Oprah Winfrey is falling apart, and not because of the royal family, but because of her own family. Now, the people who helped her tell it might feel a bit foolish.
A Big Fallout
Royal commentator Neil Sean spoke about the situation on his Daily News Headlines vlog on Saturday night. He said, “it’s a very dangerous moment in fact in my opinion for the British monarchy because whatever she says next in public could be very detrimental.”
Sean doesn’t believe Meghan’s claims about being isolated inside the palace hold up either, saying that “none of this stuff is relatable or indeed believable.”

He also said, “the story always changes,” which is something other commentators have picked up on in the past.
Other Commentators Weigh In
Sean isn’t alone with his opinions because on NewsNation, Paula Froelich and royal editor Tom Sykes discussed how Meghan talked to Oprah, did the Netflix series, and Harry wrote his book, but her own family problems didn’t come up.
Now there are horrific allegations involving her father and CSAM in the Philippines. That raises another question. If Meghan knew about the problems years ago, why was the palace presented to Oprah as the thing that was destroying her mental health?
Oprah Feels Bad?
Oprah looks bad here, according to Sean, who said she’s “toying with the idea” of apologizing to the monarchy. Whether that’s true or not might come to light some time in the future, but for now, it might be pure speculation.
Froelich said Oprah was “tarnished by her association with them” and got seen as “a sycophant rather than a great interviewer.”
Meanwhile, some reports claim Meghan is somewhere in Portugal crying, although Sean called that “rubbish.” He pointed out that she’s known about the problems with her father for years, which makes him question why she would suddenly be in tears about it now.
The trouble is that if Meghan Markle used that single interview to create her public image and there’s something that doesn’t fit, then she’s basically opening herself to a lot of questions about her overall truth.
Royal Followers React
In the comments of the Daily News Headlines podcast, plenty of people agreed that Oprah Winfrey might rue the day she interviewed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. One of them wrote, “Oprah Winfrey ruined her reputation for that … woman. I have no sympathy for her.”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
- “She wouldn’t know the truth if it smacked her in the face.”
- “Oprah didn’t do her homework as a professional journalist and took Sussex at their word. Apologize all she wants but she’s finished in the eyes of the public.”
- “Oprah can keep her apology, she should have apologized, publicly, years ago!”
- “OW should have used her considerable influence to perform her due diligence and declined the interview altogether. She had a few sketchy occurrences prior to the sit down with the infamous duo that tarnished her reputation and that interview was the nail in the coffin.”
