Days Of Our Lives Spoilers – Deidre Hall Reveals Milestone!
Deidre Hall became the soap actress with the longest career recently. And the Days Of Our Lives star did so by appearing in her 5,000th episode. But while Deidre, who portrays Salem psychiatrist Dr. Marlena Evans, didn’t even realize the milestone, her publicist kept track. However, the Days Of Our Lives star told Yahoo that she would have overlooked the milestone.
“Because you don’t go around counting your shows,” pointed out Deidre. And she explained that her life as a Days Of Our Lives star works on a contract basis. “You have a contract, you’re grateful for that, you play that [role],” noted Hall. “And then it starts again.” But now that the Days Of Our Lives star knows about the milestone, it feels “quite thrilling,” she shared.
And Deidre, who played Marlena starting in 1976, recalled what else happened that year. Hall took on a featured role in Sid and Marty Krofft’s live-action superhero series Electra Woman and Dyna Girl. “They would do my Days of Our Lives scenes on a Saturday,” shared the actress. And after she starred in the superhero show during the week, the Days director would tease her. “I’d walk in and he’d say, ‘OK, tone it way down! This is not Electra Woman, this is Marlena!”

Days Of Our Lives Spoilers – Deidre Hall Praises ‘Teaching’ Shows
But while Marlena may not qualify as a superhero, Days Of Our Lives writers have made sure that Hall’s character never bores. For instance, a serial killer stalked Marlena. And Deidre even portrayed a woman possessed by Satan. But Hall especially appreciates soap operas for doing “a wonderful job of teaching” viewers about social issues.
For instance, Deidre pointed to several topics that Days Of Our Lives covered. “We have an audience that might not be exposed to gay marriage or to crib death. Or to any number of things that happen in the world. And this is a way to sort of expose people,” Hall noted.
As an example, Deidre recalled how the character of Will Horton, Marlena’s grandson, came out as gay. And in 2014, he married his boyfriend Sonny Kiriakis in daytime’s first gay male wedding. As a result of that episode, Hall received “so many letters from people. Just young men writing in, saying, ‘Oh my gosh, when Will came and told her he was gay, I was transfixed. I was glued to the television. I wanted you to be my mother and my grandmother.’ And I suddenly thought, maybe now we have a template for teaching young people how to handle that moment. It was incredibly effective for people, as well as being a fabulous storyline.”
