Beverly Hills 90210 alum Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott have agreed to separate. And the 56-year-old actor turned to Instagram to share their decision.

But Dean admitted to feeling sad that he and Tori, 50, will end their marriage after 18 years. “It’s with great sadness and a very very heavy heart that after 18 years together and 5 amazing children, that @torispelling and I have decided to go our separate ways,” McDermott wrote per People.

Dean posted a photo of the former spouses and a pic of himself with Tori along with their children. And he added that he and Spelling agreed that the time has come to “start a new journey of our own. We will continue to work together as loving parents and guide and love our children through this difficult time,” he added.

The actor asked that fans “respect our privacy as we take this time to surround our family with love and work our way through this. Thank you all for your support and kindness.” The former couple’s five children include daughters Stella Doreen, 14, Hattie Margaret, 11; and sons Liam Aaron, 16, Finn Davey, 10, and Beau Dean, 6. Dean and Tori tied the knot on May 7, 2006, renewing their vows on May 8, 2010.

Beverly Hills 90210 – Alum Struggled With ‘Trust Issues’

But McDermott’s timing in terms of announcing the separation seemed odd. He shared the split news amid Tori posting family pics highlighting her daughter Stella’s birthday. And the photos revealed the family celebrating at the Beverly Hilton, complete with a birthday cake. 

However, while the Beverly Hills 90210 alum and Canadian actor’s timing might spark questions, the couple have experienced struggles throughout their marriage. For instance, McDermott’s infidelity reportedly troubled Tori. And insiders shared that trust remained a problem.

“Tori still has major trust issues with Dean. And he’s like, ‘We moved on from that.’ It’s complicated and a very toxic and rocky situation,” shared one insider. And another source noted, “Part of their relationship was never fully repaired after he was unfaithful.” McDermott confessed that he cheated on Spelling in 2014.
