British royal family news report that bonny Prince William hates this one thing that the rest of the men in his family have embraced.
It’s a kilt, and while he wore one as a child, he allegedly has banned it from his wardrobe.
Scotsmen revere the kilt, the lower body item of clothing that looks for all the world like a skirt. William’s refusal to don a kilt when he is in Scotland is stirring up all kinds of trouble, keep reading to find out what the bruhaha is about.
Royal Family News: William and Kilts
William is the king-in-waiting, the Prince of Wales, just as his father King Charles before him. Charles apparently loves to don his kilt, so what is William’s problem with this one item of clothing?
One royal expert takes William to task for his disregard of kilts saying that “William should accept wearing one whilst working and certainly at Balmoral, or while on official duty north of the Highland line, it should be regarded as part of his uniform.”
Royal Family News: William’s Kilt Refusal
Pundit Alan Cochrane has his own experience wearing a kilt saying that it was “pretty much anathema for cool kids” something William likely agrees with.
But to Cochrane “it’s simply unacceptable that William would “turn up at Braemar’s annual Royal Highland Gathering in chinos, or worse, jeans … He should think of it, as his father clearly did and still does, as akin to serving in a Highland regiment, where the kilt is an essential part of everyday wear.”
Royal Family News: The Kilt As Required Dress
Why is William against wearing this “magnificent garment?” Cochrane thinks it’s down to William being forced to wear one as a child, and now rebelling against authority. But the commentator has a word of advice for the future regent: “Don’t dismiss the kilt, William. It may not be your delight… but learn to like it. After all, it is your duty.”
Comments about this issue ran the gamut from support “Some of the old customs can be laid to rest in the modern age.
I see no problem if William does not feel compelled to wear a kilt” to indignation: “His father and grandfather always wore a kilt while in Scotland. He should wear one out of respect for their traditions and culture.”
Now it’s your turn to tell us royal fans, do you think Prince William is bound by duty to wear a kilt in Scotland? Or at the very least when he attends the annual and very traditional Braemar’s Royal Highland Gathering?
