Ed Sheeran Expresses Serious Concerns Over Rapid Advances in AI

We’re living in a world where AI can write songs, write stories, act, and design clothes. Obviously we’re not yet at the place where it can replace Ed Sheeran, or JK Rowling, or Angelina Jolie, but we’re getting there, and Sheeran is among the people who are cautioning us against the invasive use of AI in everyday life.

But Sheeran’s fears goes beyond the common ones of the technology taking over the jobs of people, he actually believes they could rebel and kill us all. See what he has to say about AI.

Ed Sheeran – Doesn’t “Understand” Why Multi-million Dollar Companies Are Developing AI

Ouch, AI is not going to find a fan in the “Shape of You” singer. In fact, it may even find him one of its most aggressive opposers.

Ed Sheeran Expresses Serious Concerns Over Rapid Advances in AI

“What I don’t understand about AI is, for the last 60 years, Hollywood movies have been telling you, ‘Don’t do it.’ And now everyone’s doing it,” Sheeran said in a radio interview with Audacy Live. “Have you not seen the movies where they kill us all?”

He continued, “I just don’t know why you need it – if you’re taking a job away from a human being, I think that’s probably a bad thing. The whole point of society is we all do jobs. If everything is done by robots, everybody’s gonna be out of work. I just find AI a bit weird.”

At present, we’ve seen AI taking over social media and even creating artist sound-alikes – remember fake Drake? – and it’s causing record companies to scramble to find ways to protect their artists.

Sheeran is not the only artist to shoot down AI’s increasing presence in the music industry, as Drake and a number of others criticized the technology after it made imitations of their voices and styles.

While many have been shooting down the technology, a few others have been working to get ahead of it and even make it very profitable for them now and in the long run.

For example, Grimes has launched AI software called Elf.Tech, where users have access to her voice and style and can use it to develop their own contents.

However, the content creator must agree to split royalties with her before they can use it in their projects.
