As Hallmark viewers know so well, Jodie Sweetin is no fan of her former co-star Candace Cameron Bure and her conservative TV network. For this reason, the Fuller House star was truly “disappointed” to learn that her new movie, Craft Me a Romance had been sold to Great American Family.
Jodie Sweetin on the sale of her movie to Great American Family
Recently, the Hallmark and Full House star Jodie Sweetin revealed how disappointed she was that her new movie, Craft Me a Romance had been sold to Great American Family.
This comes after her Fuller House co-star, Candace Cameron Bure had upset Sweetin and other Hallmark actors with a comment to the Wall Street Journal.
Readers will recall that Bure left Hallmark Channel, where she had starred in many films for over a decade to join Great American Family as its chief creative officer last year.
While that was bad enough for fans, she then drew major controversy in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.
In that interview, she said that her new network’s emphasis on “traditional marriage” was important to her. It meant that viewers wouldn’t see LGBTQ+ storylines in Christmas movies.
Meanwhile, Sweetin fully supports the LGBTQ+ community and also Hallmark’s choice to air fully inclusive movies.
Yahoo News quotes Jodie as saying in a statement that her movie, Craft Me a Romance was sold to Great American Family without her knowledge. She said:
Sometimes, we, as actors, don’t have control over which network buys the projects we are in, nor are we a part of the process in which they get sold. So I was very surprised to learn by reading about it in the press that the independent film I worked on over a year ago was sold to Great American Family.
Jodie continued, saying, “I am disappointed, but in keeping with my mission of supporting the LGBTQ+ family, any potential or future money made from this sale will be donated to LGBTQ+ organizations.”
Neal Bledsoe supports LGBTQ+ content on Hallmark
Jodie isn’t alone in speaking out against Great American Family’s apparent exclusion of LGBTQ+ content. In December 2022, actor Neal Bledsoe made a statement that he was cutting ties with the network for its choice to “reflect an ideology that prioritizes judgment over love,” adding:
My support for the LGBTQIA+ community is unconditional — nothing is worth my silence or their ability to live and love freely in a world that we are lucky enough to share with them.
