NCIS: Hawaii spoilers, news, and updates tease that the third season of the series will not premiere this 2023 due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA union strikes.
It was initially discussed that CBS would release the upcoming season of NCIS: Hawaii and NCIS this year, but they have rescheduled them because of the strikes.
NCIS: Hawaii – Unavoidable Delays
The production didn’t start as planned. It was initially scheduled to start last summer, so it would be on time for fall release, but the delay can’t be avoided.
According to reports, many CBS scripted dramas were delayed due to the fair pay issues that caused the strikes.
Currently, there are no announcements from the network for these midseason lineups, particularly with NCIS: Hawaii. It is expected that the upcoming season won’t be released until early next year.
NCIS: Hawaii – Ongoing strikes
The production of NCIS: Hawaii, including a number of series on different networks, is delayed because of the ongoing strikes. As for NCIS: Hawaii, the production will be delayed until the studio and the unions have agreed to new deals.
The SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) strike aims to increase the minimum pay of actors (particularly those who are not in lead roles but also put more hours into shooting).
It also aims for actors to have a larger share of revenues from streaming shows.
Meanwhile, WGA (Writer Guild of America) protests against the use of generative AI, including the dispute against the residuals from streaming media wherein AMPTP’s (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) shares are said to cut much of the writers’ average income.
Some reports state that the strikes are expected to end in September, but nothing is concrete yet. It is said that the strike will go on indefinitely, not until the labor unions and networks have reached a deal.
If the strikes end as predicted, NCIS: Hawaii’s third season could be released by February next year. But if they continue until October, it could be released in March 2023.
SAG-AFTRA represents 160,000 professionals, and the majority of them voted to declare a strike action that started last month after some negotiations were not agreed last June.
Meanwhile, WGA started their strike last May. Some actors have publicly declared their support for the strike action.
Some of them provided contexts on how some actors are not fairly paid compared to top-billing actors, even though they are putting in as many hours as them.
We have yet to see when these strike actions will come to an end.
