In this age of feel-good Hallmark movies, it turns out the network isn’t alone when releasing romantic comedies.

According to CBS Boston, the movie Allston Christmas is set to release for the holidays, while revealing a real tradition in the city of Boston.

The new, original rom-com will feature many discarded items in the street, including a haunted couch.

Allston Village is located close to Boston College and Boston University, making it ideal for students.

According to Roaming Boston, the term “Allston Christmas” refers to a real tradition, and what happens in Boston every year on September 1.

This is the time when 70 percent of leases in the college neighborhood of Allston come to a close and becomes a time to move out while other college students move in.

It’s the time when thousands of students and young professionals pack their belongings in boxes, place them in a U-Haul and move to a new apartment.

However, the Allston tradition is also a time when people leave their unwanted belongings and furniture on the street for anyone to take home.

In fact, in the days leading up to September 1, the streets are loaded with furniture, clothing, household items and even food.

More about the tradition and the movie

Natasha Nowell, the director of Allston Christmas joked, saying, “Boston, despite being a city of great ideas, decided for everyone to move out on the same day.”

Meanwhile, CBS Boston reports that Rae Brown, the head producer of the movie, was the one who came up with the idea to turn the tradition into a rom-com, saying:

People have fully furnished their apartments with Allston Christmas things. I know I got a fantastic table.

Describing the plot, Brown said, “It’s very ‘Love Actually,’ but on Allston Christmas,” adding:

We have three interconnected stories all telling us about Allston Christmas. People trying to get through moves, people trying to propose, all of that fun stuff.

One person is trying to get rid of her haunted couch, while a couple searches in vain for an item that mistakenly ended up on the street.

Natasha Nowell, the director of the movie explained that it follows a “bunch of 20-something-year-old degenerates” who are trying to make the most of Allston Christmas.

Actor and co-producer Ameera Iftekhar explained that her character’s storyline is ‘Man vs. Couch.’”

“This person is trying really hard, despite all the circumstances, to rid themselves of this couch. No one, not even God wants this couch,” she added.

Meanwhile, those behind the fun rom-com hope to submit the movie to the New England Film Festival.

However, they did say this prevents them from publicly releasing the film until it’s time for the festival.

However, Brown did say they are planning some private showings in the meantime, but are “hoping to do a true holiday kind of release.”
