Prince William and Kate Middleton attended the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTAs) on Sunday evening. Walking the red carpet, the awards ceremony is the UK’s version of the Oscars. This was the fourth year in a row the royal couple attended and William has been its president for a decade. However, they were not prepared for the celebrities to poke fun at Prince Andrew’s scandal and “Megxit.”
Offensive Jokes and Remarks
While many celebrities reportedly mocked the stressful scandals and ordeals the Royal Family has gone through during the past year, the one that offended the most was Rebel Wilson. The actress was presenting the “Best Director” category.
According to FOX News, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge looked uncomfortable as she rattled off jokes at their family’s expense.
Brad Pitt attended the ceremony to accept an award for the best-supporting actor. He also had a few jokes of his own. He made offensive statements regarding the most recent ordeal the Royal Family has endured, Prince Harry and Meghan’s Markle’s drastic “Megxit.”
Prince Andrew’s Scandal
In November 2019, Prince Andrew answered questions regarding his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. The convicted sex offender killed himself in prison. The interview was a disaster and was a huge scandal for the Royal Family.
It is still a sensitive subject for members of the Royal Family and it is being blamed for Princess Beatrice’s small-scale wedding. However, that is pure speculation from the media.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
Pitt’s jokes about “Megxit” are in reference to Harry and Meghan’s sudden and drastic decision to step down from their royal duties as senior members of the Royal Family. They also chose to move part-time to Canada. It has put a lot of stress, pressure and strain on the Royal Family as they scrambled to release statements, find others to shoulder their responsibilities and iron out details. Even though Queen Elizabeth has taken it in stride, insiders say there is a lot of resentment and bitterness from other members of royalty.
Although everyone likes a good joke, these statements about the Royal Family probably would have been better if those affected weren’t actually in attendance that night.

I think that such jokes especially with members of the royal family in attendance is in poor taste.I think if you were to insult their families in such a way they would not appreciate it.Remember how huffy many celebrities get when questioned about their personal lives.I think it is sad that they could not come up with better material than insults.I think that acting like a barbarian is better suited to roasts and similar events.Time and place people.
