Derek Hough – Updates His Wife Hayley Erbert’s Health

Dancing With The Stars judge Derek Hough just offered an update on his wife Hayley Erbert’s health. Hayley faced a rush to a hospital for a cranial hematoma this week, per Us.

And the Dancing With The Stars judge, 38, praised his wife on Instagram for her strength amid the health crisis. “Hayley has always inspired me with her strength, her resilience,” wrote Derek. “And no more so than in the last 48 hours.”

But Hough also shared that his wife has begun “the long road to recovery.” And Derek thanked fans. “Words cannot express how grateful and thankful we are for the support and love that you have given us. The kindness that we’ve been shown in this incredibly unfathomable and life changing time is immovable.”

And the Dancing With the Stars judge revealed that fans have overwhelmed the family with kindness. Derek, who tied the knot with Erbert, 29, in August, shared that the “offers of assistance” feel “so humbling and appreciated.” And he added, “Our hope is that as a family, we can start somehow and someway pay it forward.”

The health scare began on Thursday, December 7. And Derek shared that he rushed Erbert to the hospital after she became “disoriented” after a performance at the D.C. stop of their Symphony of Dance tour on Wednesday, December 6.

However, at the hospital, doctors diagnosed his wife “with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel.” And that diagnosis “required an emergency craniectomy.” As a result, Hough asked fans for “prayers and positivity.”

And Derek’s sister, Julianne Hough, turned to Instagram to seek prayers as well. “Please pray and send all your love, healing and light to Hayley and Derek,” wrote Julianne.

And Erbert herself previously shared that a car crash with Derek made her feel “grateful. Now, more than ever, we realize how fragile life is and how important it is to love those around you,” she added at the time.

Derek and Erbert began their romance in 2015 after meeting on Derek and Julianne’s Move Live Tour. And Erbert then became a troupe dancer on Dancing With The Stars. However, in June 2022, the couple took their romance to the next step with an engagement.

Meanwhile, Derek’s announcement about his wife’s health crisis motivated many Dancing With The Stars cast members to send love and prayers. For example, Dancing With The Stars co-host Alfonso Ribeiro wrote, “Sending you all the love I have in my soul. Prayers for a speedy recovery.”
