Everything We Know About Kevin Costner’s Upcoming Movie ‘Horizon: An American Saga’

Kevin Costner‘s new movie “Horizon: An American Saga,” is currently under work, and from the looks of it, it’ll become another blockbuster movie.

The actor initially spoke about his upcoming movie to PEOPLE back in November 2022 and he described the project to the outlet as “The hardest thing I’ve ever done, but it’s exactly what I want to do.” Here’s everything we know about the upcoming movie from the casts, to the release date, etc.

The movie will come in three parts and will be produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line. Costner co-wrote the movie with Jon Baird, and will star as well as direct the movie.

The star of “Yellowstone” told People in a November 2022 interview, “I wrapped this first one, and it took everything I had, but I’m holding on to the rope and not letting go. In my career I’ve tried to choose not based on what was popular. I made the films I wanted to make.”

The plot of the movie is still unknown however, IMDb released a synopsis that says it “chronicles a multi-faceted, 15-year span of pre-and post-Civil War expansion and settlement of the American west.”

Late last year, on October 5, 2023, Warner Bros. Pictures released a 42-second-long teaser trailer that featured the 69-year-old’s character riding on a horse before firing a shot from a rifle he was holding.

As for the casts, “Deadline” released a list of actors that will be cast in “Horizon: An American Saga” back in September 2022.

These stars were mentioned in the list: Jamie Campbell Bower, Luke Wilson, Thomas Haden Church, Michael Rooker, Jena Malone, Isabelle Fuhrman, Alejandro Edda, Tatanka Means, Tom Payne, Abbey Lee, Wasé Chief, Tim Guinee, Michael Angarano, Colin Cunningham, Scott Haze, Angus Macfadyen, Douglas Smith, Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, and Jon Beavers.

The following year, the outlet released another list that included these new cast members: Glynn Turman, Kathleen Quinlan, and Giovanni Ribisi, who will star alongside Costner and his teenage son Hayes Costner. Costner once revealed to PEOPLE that he intentionally cast his son in his upcoming movie.

According to him, “I kind of did it on purpose, so he could be hanging out with me. And the same thing for Cayden, same thing for Grace. I’m like any other parent, I’m trying to figure out, like, ‘This is really neat. You should come be with me.'” As for Hayes’ role in the movie, Costner told the outlet, “He’s very good. Hayes plays the namesake character that I actually play in the movie. He’s 13 years old and the screenplay’s been around longer than that.”

The first part of “Horizon: An American Saga” will be released on June 28, 2024, and the second will be released on August 16, 2024, and will be titled Chapter 2.
