Pirates Of The Caribbean: Is Austin Butler Replacing Johnny Depp

Austin Butler began acting at a young age, but has definitely made a name for himself in Hollywood in recent years.  It’s no secret that he’s also ridiculously good looking. 

But, is he Pirates Of The Caribbean material?  Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom have set the bar high for the franchise.

If you don’t know who Austin Butler is, here’s a quick refresher.  Like many Hollywood actors, Butler began his career on Disney Channel and Nickelodeon shows like Hannah Montana, Jonas, Zoey 101, and Drake & Josh.  As he got older he made his way to primetime series like The Carrie Diaries and Arrow.

Who Is Austin Butler?

In 2019 Butler impressed critics with his broadway debut in The Ice Man Cometh.  His career continues to blow up and in 2022 he won multiple awards for his role of Elvis Presley in the biographical drama, starring along side Tom Hanks.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise confirmed over a year ago that a reboot is coming, however the new movie will not feature Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow.  It’s unlikely they would ever recast the role, rumor has it the reboot will be some sort of prequel of Jack’s early life.

Austin Butler has been pegged as the star of The Pirates Of The Caribbean reboot for a while now by the Hollywood rumor mill. 

Ironically, Austin Butler is just handsome and gritty enough to pull off a young Jack or long lost son of Johnny Depp’s character.  But, the actor says there’s zero truth to those rumors.  And, even if they did approach him he might not take the role!

Austin Butler – Talks Johnny Depp’s Pirate Gig

In a recent Entertainment Tonight interview Austin revealed, “I loved Pirates of the Caribbean.  That just reminded me of when I was a kid. In elementary school, we had to make these posters that had like your favorite music, your favorite actors. And at that time — I don’t know what grade, it must have been fourth grade, third grade or something — but it was Pirates of the Caribbean was on there.”

Austin Butler went on to say that he would be scared to take on a role that Johnny Depp did so well, and added that the franchise would be a “hard one to touch.”
