Prince William And Kate Felt The Palace’s Response To Harry And Meghan’s Racism Claims Should Be “Tough”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have said a lot of things against the Royal Family, and to this day, Prince William has only ever responded to one: the racism claims.

In the aftermath of the Sussexes’ Oprah interview, William told a bunch of media people asking for statements on the bombshell interview that the Royal Family “is very much not a racist family.”

So we can guess that behind the scenes, William would be looking forward to stamping out these claims as firmly as possible.

Following their exit from the Royal Family, Harry and Meghan went on Oprah to accuse certain members of the Royal Family of making “several conversations” about the skin color of their then-unborn son Archie. In the weeks to come, the fallout was enormous and even got #abolishthemonarchy trending.

This led the family to release a statement from the Queen addressing the allegations. The now-famous statement read: “The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.”

According to Robert Jobson, the stinging “recollections may vary” wasn’t included in the original draft, but was added in after Kate insisted that it must be toughened up.

Writing for MailOnline he said: “The original draft of the statement had been much milder, but both William and Catherine had been keen to toughen it up. It was the then Duchess of Cambridge herself who came up with the powerful phrase ‘recollections may vary’.

Speaking on William’s reaction to the claims, Jobson said he found it “unforgivable.”

“Her husband also challenged the allegations, telling reporters: ‘We are very much not a racist family’. “As far as William was concerned, Harry and Meghan’s behaviour was unforgivable, and they could no longer be trusted.”
