Chelsea Handler has shared her thoughts on JD Vance’s resurfaced comments about childless women, targeting the Ohio senator and vice-presidential candidate’s controversial remarks.
In a 2021 interview on “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Vance stated that the U.S. was being run by “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made.”
Handler’s Response To JD Vance’s Comment
Handler, 49, fired back in an Instagram video, pointing out the systemic issues in the country. “This country is still controlled by men in systems that were set up by men, that are carefully crafted to continue to benefit men,” Handler said. “So to put it in women-hating terms you’ll understand, you’re being hysterical.”
Handler, who has no children, also defended Vice President Kamala Harris, stating that there is no correlation between being childless and being unfit for the presidency. Harris shares two stepchildren with her husband, Douglas Emhoff.
“Maybe if she had five kids with three different men and a scandalous affair with a porn star and were a convicted felon, that would be more palatable to Republican men,” Handler added sarcastically. She continued, “All of us childless cat and dog ladies are going to go from ‘childless and crushing it’ to ‘childless and crushing you’ in November.”
In her video caption, Handler expressed support for Harris, who launched her campaign for president after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race, writing, “Childless Cat and Dog Ladies for Harris.”
Jennifer Aniston’s – Criticism
Jennifer Aniston also criticized Vance’s remarks, saying, “I truly can’t believe this is coming from a potential VP of the United States.” Aniston, who has publicly shared her IVF journey, added, “I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day. I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option. Because you are trying to take that away from her, too.”
Vance responded to these criticisms in an interview with Megyn Kelly, describing references to his daughter as “disgusting” because she “is 2 years old.”
He insisted that his “childless cat ladies” comment was sarcastic but stood by the substance of his remark, stating, “This is not about criticizing people who, for various reasons, didn’t have kids. This is about criticizing the Democratic Party for becoming anti-family and anti-child.”
Whoopi Goldberg also weighed in on “The View,” condemning Vance’s comments, “There are people who have chosen not to have children for whatever reason. There are people who want to have children who cannot. How dare you. You never had a baby. Your wife had a baby. But you never had a baby, so you know nothing about this. How dare you.”
Handler’s Stand On Motherhood
Handler has often discussed her decision not to have children, using her platform to speak out against societal pressures. “Kids don’t respect me, and quite frankly, the feeling is mutual,” she joked while guest-hosting “The Daily Show” last year.
On “The Drew Barrymore Show,” Handler noted that many women have thanked her for her stance, saying, “You’re not worthy in this world when you become a mother or someone’s wife. You’re worthy before that.”
Handler’s sharp and humorous response to Vance’s comments has sparked widespread discussion and highlighted the ongoing societal debate about women, motherhood, and leadership.
