Emma Samms Had No Idea She Was the Third Love Interest Considered For ‘General Hospital’ Luke

Emma Samms is just discovering one of the mysteries of life – and while it’s not so great as the greatest mysteries of life, it’s still big enough. Who knew Demi Moore could have played Luke’s love interest in ‘General Hospital?’ I feel like somewhere, the universe birthed something weird just because of this discovery.

Emma Samms On What Fans Can Expect From Her ‘General Hospital’ Character This Season

The long-running soap opera is returning this September and so is one of our favorite on-again and off-again characters on the series, Emma Samms. Having been on the show for decades, the 64-year-old is reflecting on her character in a new interview with Variety.

As her character Holly returns for another run, Samm promises many “interesting twists” for the character, who she describes as possessing both the good girl and bad girl sides. “It’s so fun, and really interesting,” she shared with the outlet. “It’s that depth, all those different colors that Holly has to her character.”

Samms joined ‘General Hospital’ in 1982, before going on to star in prime-time soaps ‘Dynasty’ and ‘The Colbys.’ Since her debut on the soap opera, she has since reappeared for multi-episode arcs in 2006, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2020, 2022 and 2023.

In the show, Samms’ character Holly plays the love interest of Tony Geary’s character, Luke. Holly came into Tony’s life after his former partner Laura (played by Genie Francis) went missing. However, she wasn’t the original star considered to play the character.

“I didn’t realize when I started that I was the third attempt to find somebody for a new romantic relationship for Luke,” she told the outlet. “They had tried really amazing people, like Janine Turner and Demi Moore. So I was sort of the last-ditch attempt in that regard.”

“But I had no clue, which is probably extremely valuable and helped me a lot,” Samms continued. “I just came in sort of innocent, and ‘I’ll do the best I can’ sort of thing. And I just somehow got away with it. I was very fortunate.”
