Matthew Perry’s Mom Speaks Out For The First Time Since ‘Friends’ Star’s Death

In her first-ever public discussion of Matthew Perry‘s death on television, his mother, Suzanne Morrison, shares a moving recollection of the days before his death.

Suzanne Morrison described a touching chat she had with her son during an interview with Savannah Guthrie on the Today show that aired on the first anniversary of his passing.

“He came up to me and he said, ‘I love you so much, and I’m so happy to be with you now,’” Suzanne Morrison reflected, noting how the moment felt almost prophetic. She added, “I didn’t think about it at the time, but I thought, ‘How long has it been since we have had a conversation like that?’ It’s been years.”

Details on Perry’s Death

Perry, who died at the age of 54, was found unresponsive in the “heated end” of his pool on October 28, 2023. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office later confirmed that his death was attributed to “the acute effects of ketamine.”

In the Today show preview, Suzanne continued, “There was an inevitability to what was going to happen next to him, and he felt it very strongly.” She recalled how he reassured her, stating, “I’m not frightened anymore,” which raised concerns for her.

Suzanne Morrison shares Perry with her ex-husband John Bennett Perry, who is their only child. After their divorce, she married “Dateline” correspondent Keith Morrison, with whom she has four children. The family has since established The Matthew Perry Foundation to support organizations aiding individuals struggling with addiction and substance abuse.

Recently, Dr. Mark Chavez, based in San Diego, pleaded guilty in connection with Perry’s death, specifically for conspiracy to distribute ketamine. This incident involved five individuals facing criminal charges related to the actor’s untimely demise.

Keith Morrison Expresses Pain of Losing His Stepson

In a prior interview on March 13, Keith Morrison expressed the ongoing pain of losing his stepson, emphasizing, “It’s not easy, especially for his mom. This grief is something you carry every day, and it can manifest in new and unexpected ways.”

Perry’s family issued a statement after the accusations against the five people involved in his death were announced, expressing their sorrow over his death but finding some comfort in the fact that the police were treating the case seriously.

“We look forward to justice taking its course and we’re grateful for the exceptional work of the multiple agencies whose agents investigated Matthew’s death. We’re hoping unscrupulous suppliers of dangerous drugs will get the message,” the family stated.
