Sarah Ferguson has gone on the record to say that her cancer treatment has helped her overcome her addiction. The Duchess of York says in a new interview that her cancer treatment has helped her overcome her food addiction.
Before that, Sarah admits that she had a problem with binge eating that she just couldn’t keep under control. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.
Sarah Ferguson – Says Her Cancer Treatment Has Saved Her From Addiction
But Sarah says that it took for her to be ‘cut open’ for her cancer treatment for her to come to terms with her struggles with food addiction and her self confidence. Clearly, that is something a lot of people can relate to.
Sarah puts it this way, “My melanoma scars, the scars of my cancer, it took me being literally carved up to cut away the addictions of self-doubt and self-judgment that I have lived with since the age of 11.”
“Don’t wait to be cut open in order to cut away the addiction. My addiction was my addiction to food.”
“So I ate to compensate for my feeling. It started at 11, my whole world was food, and my life was in the corner on the bottom right hand side.”
What’s Next For The Duchess Of York?
The duchess continued, “When I got cancer I put my life back in the middle and food back in its rightful place, not intentionally. It just happened because I realised that I was eating instead of living.”
“At 65, I’m now free of the shackles of unworthiness and self-doubt.”
Sarah Ferguson has often been very open about her struggles with her self image and has even been a spokesperson for weight loss programs in the past.
However, it looks like she’s turned a new page and is happy with who she is each time she sees herself in the mirror. There’s no doubt that her family has also got to appreciate her new outlook on life, too.
