Some of our favorites will be returning for the upcoming sequel of ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ – think Freddie Prinze Jr and Jennifer Love Hewitt – and some won’t be – think Sarah Michelle Gellar. But that’s not a deal breaker because we’ve got a lot of exciting new stars ready to hop on the train of the slasher film.
Rumors are it’s going to be a wilder ride this round in. In other words, Jigsaw ain’t got nothing on this.
Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Austin Nichols And Gabbriette Join the Cast of New ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Sequel
According to Deadline, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Austin Nichols and Gabbriette have joined the cast of the highly anticipated sequel to the 1997 horror movie.
Already, Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers and Jonah Haur-King with Freddie Prinze Jr. have been confirmed to be returning, with lead star Jennifer Love Hewitt in talks to return.
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is directing the sequel, which is expected to hit theaters on July 18, 2025, with a script written by Sam Lansky and Kaytin Robinson. The script is in turn written off a draft by Leah McKendrick. Neal Moritz is producing.
The original movie follows four friends, who, after a night of revelry, accidentally run over a man and dump his body to conceal their crime. They then go on to continue to live their lives as normal as it used to be.
They are reunited a year later when they find themselves haunted by an axe-wielding maniac. The original film draws inspiration from the urban legend known as “the Hook,” as well as preceding slasher films, like 1980’s ‘Prom Night’ and 1982’s ‘The House on Sorority Row.’
Even though it was only moderately received by critics at the time, it has continued to have a significant impact on pop culture, with the film being parodied in 2000’s ‘Scary Movie.’
Its success led to the making of the 1998 sequel, ‘I Still Know What You Did Last Summer,’ in which Hewitt, Prinze Jr., and Watson reprised their roles. Another sequel, ‘I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer,’ was released in 2006, but since it featured an entirely new cast and plot, it’s considered a stand-alone.
