For all intents and purposes, Prince William seems unflappable, the picture of cool, calm, and collected. Always with a stiff upper lip, he’s definitely not the kind to decide he doesn’t want to be the prince and leave the country hanging.
That’s why it’s stunning to hear about an incident in which the young prince was left reportedly “furious” at another member of The Firm.
What happened? Royal watcher Robert Jobson wrote all about the incident in his 2006 book, “William’s Princess.”
What And Who Made William Angry?
According to Jobson, it was 2001 when Prince Edward initiated a controversy that left William, and The Firm, angry as hornets. At that time the heir to the throne was enrolled at the University of St. Andrew when Prince Edward’s television production company Ardent were caught out filming at the college. This came in spite of privacy agreements that had been put in place for William.
Did Edward Act In His Own Best Interests And Put William In A Bad Situation?
To make matters worse, it appeared according to Jobson, that Edward was willfully acting in his own best interests when he filmed at the college. Jobson wrote, “The program was understood to be keeping Ardent afloat. Desperate times seem to have called for desperate measures for Prince Edward.”
In other words, Edward was going against his family’s wishes and mandate in order to save his own skin. Wow, nice move Edward
No One Appreciated Edward’s Callous Treatment Of, William
Jobson writes, “William was furious. He felt his uncle’s company’s actions had threatened to undermine the carefully nurtured relationship between St. James’s Palace and the media, and in turn that it would threaten the entente cordiale between him and the press.”
To Make Matters Worse, Prince Charles Was Left Angered By His Brother’s Actions.
“When the story emerged, Prince Charles understandably went ballistic. He berated his youngest sibling, furiously demanding from the Queen that Edward be made to choose once and for all between his public duties and his television production company – itself many believed little more than a vanity project dependent on Edward’s title for what little success it had.”
Edward Was Put On Royal Notice
As a result of his poor decision making, Edward was publicly scolded and put on notice and, “Relations between the brothers plummeted to an all-time low.”

At the time a spokesperson for Prince Charles said he was, “Disappointed, very much so.” But behind closed doors, Charles was said to be much more than disappointed and in fact in a rage, to the point he personally upbraided Edwrd himself.
