There’s a lot that’s being unpacked now that Harry and Meghan Markle’s two-day trip to the Middle East has rounded up. First of all, ignoring the memes heavily centered on Meghan’s wrinkled clothes, there’s now news that the UK government is distancing itself from the royal’s faux royal tour.
This is happening despite the fact that the two were welcomed by the UK ambassador for the region during their arrival. But that’s not all the Sussex drama going down right now.
King Abdullah and Queen Rania Snubbed the Sussexes’ Middle East Charity Jaunt
On Tuesday night, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle landed in the capital of Jordan, Amman, for a two-day visit. The couple traveled to the region at the invitation of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) director-general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu.
Harry and Meghan then spent their time in the region visiting various charities and highlighting humanitarian efforts supporting refugees. One of their most notable stops remains the World Central Kitchen, where they learned about the delivery of a million daily meals to Gaza.
Harry also spoke to victims of addiction during their tour of a rehab facility, saying, “I want you guys to know there’s no shame in having an addiction, it stems from something else which is an emotional pain – you’re very, very brave to come here into hospital.”
However, at no point during their visit did they meet or receive the backing of The king of Jordan, Abdullah II, or his wife, Queen Rania, despite the couple enjoying a close relationship with several members of the British Royal Family.
A Daily Mail source reported that “there is no meeting scheduled between the Duke and Duchess [of Sussex] and the Jordanian Royal Family.”
The couple’s visit – whilst meant to spotlight the plight of displaced Syrian and Palestinian families – received a number of mixed opinions.
Aside from the fact that it has no Royal Family backing, despite their sources saying that King Charles was alerted of the visit ahead of time, people also saw it as the couple carrying out a faux royal tour for the mere publicity of it.
In addition to this, the Israeli Prime Minister lashed out at Prince Harry for spreading falsehoods during the visit.
