There’s some big news for fans of The Young and the Restless, backstage is concerned. According to reports, Co-Executive Producer Josh Griffith has stepped down from his role.
Fellow Co-Executive Producer, Sally McDonald, will be the sole EP on the CBS soap, moving forward. Learn all the juicy details about this massive switch-up below.
Josh Griffith’s Status
Even though he relinquished his EP duties, Griffith will continue as head writer for the show and remain with the daytime drama.
As per reports, it was Griffith’s choice to step away from his EP role to focus on writing for The Young and the Restless.
With that said, McDonald stepped up to the co-executive producer last year, and now she’ll be leading that role on her own.
Griffith has been in the soap opera industry since 1988, writing for shows like General Hospital, Days of Our Lives, As the World Turns, One Life to Life, and Sunset Beach.
During his soapy tenure, he’s earned a total of seven Daytime Emmys.
Meanwhile, since being with the Y&R, McDonald has earned eight Daytime Emmys in the Outstanding Directing Team category.
Genoa City Shake-Up
This is huge news for the CBS soap at a pivotal time for the show, as some major storylines move forward during May Sweeps.
From Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) becoming the bone marrow donor to Malcolm Winters (Shemar Moore) – as well as being arrested as part of Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) plan to get back Newman Enterprises – to Matt Clark’s (Roger Howarth) amnesia and return to GC, some arcs may wrap up sooner than fans expect because of this change.
Only time will tell. With that said, no word on when this transition backstage will officially unfold.
