CBS The Young and the Restless spoilers and updates reveal Y&R is still not back filming, even though its sister soap has resumed production. So, what is the deal with this situation? When will Y&R cast and crew get back to work? Is there a reason why production didn’t restart when B&B did? Keep reading to get all the updates and information that is available regarding this issue.
One Soap Back To Work, The Other Still Halted
CBS has two soap operas: The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful. So, when one went back to work last week, some fans believed the other would too. However, it hasn’t really worked out that way. There are some pretty good reasons why Y&R is holding off for a bit.
When Will The Young and The Restless Resume Filming
Even though The Young and the Restless cast is not filming yet, the process to get them back to work has begun. Everyone has been getting their initial COVID-19 tests. Those must come back negative, and they will have to be tested again on a regular basis. At the current time, the Y&R date to go back to work is July 6, 2020.
Watching and Learning From Sister Soap
The Young and the Restless has a much bigger cast than its sister soap. So, if someone ends up with coronavirus, then it will affect a lot more people. This isn’t to say that the B&B cast isn’t important. However, there is wisdom in watching and learning from others’ mistakes.
For example, B&B started filming for only one day before they had to take a break. The reasoning was due to false positives from the lab it was using. The health department needed some answers, they had to switch labs, and documentation had to be submitted. Considering that both CBS soaps probably used the same lab, Y&R was able to see what happened. They are able to make any adjustments or changes to prevent it from happening when they decide to restart production.
Instead of it being a widespread issue, it was contained, thus making it quicker and easier to resolve.
The Young and the Restless: What Else To Expect
Once the soap does restart production, everyone won’t be back on set together as usual. Social distancing measures have to be followed. Fewer cast members will be on set at a time and some scripts have to be revised. It’s not just the actors that will have to work differently. So will production personnel, crew, and those who work behind the camera.

B&B had to relocate one department to give them more room for social distancing. They also installed partitions so those that have to work next to each other are still protected. Y&R might need to do something similar. A COVID response team was brought in full-time to make sure safety protocols are met. Cleaning and sanitizing have to be done more thoroughly and more often. So, these are all things that Y&R will also have to deal with.
The one issue that we do expect to see is the older actors. Seniors are at an increased risk of coronavirus infection, complications, and death. So are those with certain health conditions and compromised immune systems. The UK is making older actors wait longer before they can go back to work and we might see the same thing with American soaps.
With all that being said, the soap should resume production very soon. We will keep you updated.
