Princess Anne Delights Royal Fans With Her Famous Dry Wit

Princess Anne celebrated her 76th birthday this week, and fans sent in their best wishes for the well-respected member of the British royal family. Some people love her so much that occasionally they wish she could be the monarch.

The Princess Seems Strict

Many people respect the younger sister of King Charles, and rumours have it that even Prince Harry seems a bit wary of her, as she doesn’t tend to take nonsense from anyone.

She is also a hardworking royal, and gets the job done effectively and with minimal fuss.

Her separation and subsequent divorce from Captain Mark Phillips generated considerable press attention, but she got through it with her poise intact.

Highlights Of Anne

On her birthday, The Royal Family Channel shared some of the highlights from the footage of Princess Anne. Several clips showed her characteristically direct exchanges with reporters and members of the public.

A clip showed her driving with her dog and a scarf over her hair. Seeing people in the road, she asked what they were doing.

The reporters asked whether she had seen a newspaper story claiming that she planned to divorce. 

How did Princess Anne react? She said, “Divorce? Never been mentioned,” as she drove off smartly, yelling out the window, “By anybody.”

The Cake Cutting Ceremony 

Another memorable scene showed the mother of Peter and Zara presenting medals at an event.

Then she went to meet the person who made the cake. Handed a big knife, she tapped it on the table a few times, and silenced everyone with an ominous “Ahem.”

Then she told everyone that “the instructions are that you will eat it if I cut it,” as she brandished the knife about. Next, she added, “Otherwise, it’s just legalized vandalism.”

A Palace Speech

Another scene showed Princess Anne at Buckingham Palace addressing a gathering. In her speech, she got the laughs by saying:

Firstly, I’d just like to make the point that we’re very fortunate that His Majesty, um, has allowed us to use Buckingham Palace for this event. And I need to say that because, um, in other aspects I probably wouldn’t.

Royal Family Fans React
