Prince Harry & Meghan’s UK Return Could Bring Trouble for the Royal Family

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly preparing for a move back to the United Kingdom, but according to royal commentators, the British Royal Family is far from welcoming them back with open arms.

The Royals Are Unhappy?

On the Dan Wootton Outspoken podcast on YouTube on Wednesday, Dan Wootton brought in Britney, the editor of the Royal News Network.

They discussed reports about how King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Catherine, Princess of Wales, are handling the potential return of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Wootton spoke about an article written by senior Daily Telegraph columnist Allison Pearson, titled “The Sussexes’ selfish return spells peril for the royal family.”

Pearson wrote that senior royal members at Balmoral were furious over news of the couple’s return. In her article, Pearson questioned the logic behind the sudden about-face:

The truth is, however cynical you are about Meghan and Harry, it’s not cynical enough… What changed? Is the UK no longer so racist that Meghan couldn’t bear to live here? Is she no longer worried about being ‘silenced’ by her terrible in-laws?

Pearson also noted that there is hostility towards the couple in the UK, predicting that the Duchess of Sussex might “struggle with public reception.”

A Tightrope Walk

Reacting to Pearson’s insights, Britney noted that Prince William and Princess Catherine face an exceptionally difficult balancing act.

While wanting to protect their family, avoiding interaction altogether could prove tricky during major family or public gatherings, such as Christmas at Sandringham.

Britney said, “This is not won and done. This should be part of a much longer process, and most importantly, Harry needs to apologize to his father, to his brother, to his sister-in-law, to his stepmother, and to the British people.”

A Reality Check

She also mentioned that Prince Harry should get “a reality check.” And she argued that just because Queen Camilla and King Charles met with Harry, Meghan Markle and the kids at Highgrove, “that doesn’t mean they necessarily fully forgive him.”

She warned that assuming a smooth return into the royal fold is “wildly based in delusion,” arguing that six years of public friction can’t be fixed overnight.  

The Diana Awards

The discussion also covered a report by royal writer Tom Sykes in The Royalist Substack, titled “EXCLUSIVE: Prince William Planning to Skip Diana Awards, Leaving Door Open for Harry to Claim Diana’s Mantle.”

Sykes reported that Prince William plans to skip the upcoming Diana Awards ceremony to avoid a forced photo opportunity or awkward interaction with Harry, who will be in the UK for the WellChild Awards.

Sykes argued that dodging Prince Harry continually hands his younger brother strategic leverage.

William Can Avoid Harry?

Wootton disagreed with Sykes’s assessment, saying:

It’s so easy for William to avoid Harry. He is the future King of England. Any organization is going to know that if William wants to be a part of their event, Harry is going to have to be kept a million miles away…

Britney agreed that if there is any future interaction between William and Prince Harry, it will have to be on terms dictated by William.

An Uphill Battle Ahead

Reports of a possible family reunion might sound promising, but both commentators saw problems ahead. William and Catherine reportedly haven’t budged, and Harry and Meghan returning to the UK could make things awkward.
