Kim Kardashian Awarded Just $1.15 Over Paris Robbery – And She’s Happy About It

It’s been ten years since Kim Kardashian was robbed at the Hôtel de Pourtalès, and this week, she was awarded one euro (approximately $1.15) by a Paris court. However, she’s not upset about it. Read on to find out why.

A Symbolic Award 

The compensation awarded seems hardly worth the effort of a large legal battle, but it turns out it was mostly symbolic. She only asked for one euro, and the judge granted her exactly that.

One euro isn’t a whole ton of cash, especially for someone as wealthy as Kim Kardashian is, but she sure seemed happy about it.

Kim’s Statement

The Associated Press reported that Kim Kardashian released a joint statement with her friend Simone Harouche, saying, “We are grateful to the French justice system for recognizing us as victims of the terrible events that took place in Paris in 2016.”

They added that, “Today’s decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition.”

Newscord also highlighted how the ruling served as a formal legal acknowledgment of accountability rather than financial restitution.

The Convictions 

Eight people were convicted for their roles in the armed robbery, which involved the theft of over $6 million worth of jewelry. AP reminded readers that “the hotel where the robbery took place received 50,000 euros, while the night receptionist was awarded 109,516 euros.”

The aging thieves won’t spend any more time behind bars, and the Winnipeg Free Press reminded its readers that the Parisian gangster group was labeled “Grandpa Robbers” (les papys braqueurs).

Kanye Was Skeptical

Back in the day, Kim’s ex, Kanye West, mocked her and suggested she lied. She discussed that with David Letterman, and she claimed that Kanye said it was all drama over nothing, adding that he accused her of faking “her robbery for a TV show.”

Ten years ago, many fans also thought the whole story seemed ridiculous, and not just because of Kanye’s skepticism, but because the robbers were certainly not spring chickens.

The Sentences 

In May last year, Keeping Up with the Kardashians fans found out that medical issues plagued some of the criminals. For instance, ringleader Aomar Aït Khedache got an eight-year sentence with five years suspended.

Meanwhile, Yunice Abbas, 71 at the time of the verdict, had Parkinson’s disease and had undergone heart surgery. A 70-year-old, Didier Dubreucq, suffered from lung cancer after a lifetime of heavy smoking.

The rest of them got lesser sentences, and some time was cut because they had served pre-trial time behind bars.

Fans React

When E! News reported on the one-euro settlement on YouTube, viewers seemed a bit taken aback.

And while you might understand her desire to just want recognition for trauma suffered, some people felt a bigger settlement could have helped others.

One viewer wrote in the comments section, “I wouldve taken it and donated it to other victims.”

Another person commented, “Kim Kardashian is ‘grateful’ that she was awarded $1.15? Seriously?”

A third viewer added, “She doesnt need the money but i wouldve donated it to a victims charity cause.”

Fans might think that it seems crazy that Kim Kardashian went through nearly a decade of legal drama just to end up with one euro changing hands. But there’s nothing wrong with symbolism; after all, humans have been at that sort of thing for thousands of years.
