Earl Spencer Reveals Why Prince Harry Was Kept Out Of Diana Memoir

Earl Spencer is opening up about his memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister which generated plenty of headlines over its claims regarding King Charles III and the two young princes. Recently, he addressed whether Prince Harry was involved in the project. Read on for more details.

Harry Kept Out?

Speaking in an interview on CBS Mornings on YouTube, Charles Spencer clarified that Prince Harry had no part in creating or writing the memoir.

In the interview, Spencer said, “I decided not to have anyone involved in the book. So, nobody knew about it except my wife obviously and the publishers.”

Talking about Prince Harry, he added, “I didn’t tell any of the family until just before it was released publicly as a thing because I didn’t want anyone to think, particularly with Harry, who people know came to stay in the summer, that he was in any way involved in this.”

According to Princess Diana’s brother, Harry’s main question when he was told about the memoir was whether there was anything inside that would embarrass him.

The Earl assured him there wasn’t, adding that Prince Harry is “completely fine” with the finished work.

Royal Tension

He reiterated the storyline from the book about Prince William and his brother walking behind their mother’s coffin at the funeral.

He recalled being told by Buckingham Palace that the young princes would walk behind their mother’s coffin and said “when I was told by Buckingham Palace they’re going to walk behind Diana’s coffin I said ‘well no they’re not.'”

Earl Spencer added, “I felt quite able to speak on Diana’s behalf because she’d left me as their guardian.”

He explained his belief that “no mother in the world would want that.” Later, he was told the boys wished to walk alongside their grandfather, Prince Philip, though Spencer hoped they hadn’t been “dragooned into it.”

Previously, we reported that Spencer maintained he just wanted to celebrate his sister’s legacy on his own terms.

Addressing Buckingham Palace’s pushback, Spencer remarked that “they have to gaslight” and “pretend there’s something sort of wrong with my mind or my memory.”

He insisted, “There’s nothing wrong with either.”
