Conflicting reports about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry come so fast that even news hosts seem to struggle with the whiplash.
This week’s about-turn in reporting involved an alleged apology to Prince William and Catherine, the Princess of Wales. Read on for more details.
Conflicting Reports
On October 6, The Express UK published a story based on a source who alleged that the Sussex couple were “planning to express their regrets to the royal family over comments they made to Oprah Winfrey during their 2021 bombshell TV interview.”
As noted by entertainment editor Peter Ford on The Morning Show, “a newspaper doesn’t do a splash and put exclusive on it unless they got it from a very good source.”

The hosts discussed how the news from The Express was contradicted by a report from People. Ford also noted that People, “who are very much a favourite outlet for Harry and Meghan to leak stories to,” reported the direct opposite.
And they were correct on that different take because the outlet wrote, “Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not planning an apology to Prince William and Kate Middleton.”
It also noted that “the source dismisses a report claiming the Duke and Duchess of Sussex hope to make amends over their 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview as ‘nonsense’.”
The Oprah Interview
Per The Morning Show hosts, the apology was supposedly aimed at rectifying claims made during the Oprah interview about “how dark their son Archie’s skin would be before he was born.”
You might recall that plenty of allegations arose during that Oprah Winfrey interview, but the claim about Archie’s skin colour resulted in something unusual. Prince William responded to reporters, saying, “We’re very much not a racist family.”
Notably, it takes a lot for the royal family to comment to the media.
Back To Square One
Discussing the opposing news reports, Peter Ford opined, “People, I don’t think, were going to buy the apology anyway.” Then he added, “So, yes, there might have been an apology, but now there’s not going to be an apology. So we’re back to square one.”
That’s when one of the co-hosts said, “Okay, let’s move on.” The other host seemed a bit shocked and asked, “Oh, I thought you’d have some sort of thoughts on that because, you know, Meghan and stuff.”
However, the hosts seemed thoroughly fed up with the conflicting reports. One said, “Like, what a mess,” while another agreed, “That’s an absolute mess.”

Well, it is a mess when two major outlets start reporting diametrically opposed accounts. And it’s even more of a mess when one of them puts out a report so sharply contradicting the other.
People wrote, “the UK’s Express…specifically claimed that the Sussexes planned to apologize over Meghan’s revelation during the interview that there had been ‘concerns and conversations’ within the royal family about how dark Prince Archie’s skin might be before he was born.”
