General Hospital Mysterious Newcomer Wil Traval (Jude) Reveals Shocking Past & Unexpected Twist

Wil Traval opens up about recovering from a broken back, his surprising GH opportunity, and the happiness he's found playing Jude.

General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal Wil Traval made his General Hospital debut on Friday, October 16, stepping into the role of a mysterious stranger who crossed paths with Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) at a bar.

The Australian actor was in the midst of recovering from a car accident that had resulted in a broken back when he received the opportunity to submit a self-tape audition for the soap opera in June.

Wil Traval Is Impressed With Kelly Thiebaud

Following a callback, he participated in a chemistry read alongside Thiebaud, and she left a lasting impression.

“I can’t speak more highly of her,” Traval shares with TV Insider. “I think she’s fantastic. It’s the biggest delight in my life to be working with her. Originally, it was going to be a short guest role, I believe.”

“And at the end of the week I got a call saying they might want to offer me a contract on the show, which was a real surprise and delight.”

Taking on the character of Jude—rumored to have a connection to the Jacks family—represents an exciting new direction for Traval, who has called the United States home for 16 years but has primarily focused his career on primetime television.

Though he had previously auditioned for both GH and Days of Our Lives, he soon realized that daytime television demanded a distinctly different approach.

Traval Wasn’t Prepared For The Intensity

“I had some sense of what to expect going in, though I wasn’t entirely prepared for the intensity,” he explains.

“What surprised me most was just how demanding and fast-moving the whole thing really is. Soap opera actors deserve serious recognition because it’s genuinely an athletic form of acting; far more physically and mentally taxing than anything else I’ve tackled.

“You need the endurance of a marathoner, not just the burst of a sprinter. It demands unwavering commitment and resilience—it’s genuinely demanding work.”

He recalls his opening day as “disorienting,” yet Traval quickly adapted and uncovered a genuine passion for the role.

Traval Feels This Is Right For Him

“There’s something about this that feels right for me,” he shares.

“I was at the gym recently, and I caught people staring—I thought, ‘What’s going on here?’ Then it hit me—I was genuinely happy; I had this unmistakable glow, a spring in my step, and this ridiculous grin plastered across my face.

“I thought, ‘Wow, I haven’t experienced this feeling in ages.’

“That really sums up my journey so far. It’s transformed me back into someone who’s genuinely, unabashedly joyful.”

Traval’s Journey To Port Charles Has Not Been Typical

Traval’s journey to Port Charles has been far from typical. He completed high school at just 16 years old and secured a mathematics scholarship to study at an Australian university.

Yet a summer immersed in coursework led him to reassess his academic direction.

“I felt like my scholarship was given probably too generously,” he reflects with amusement.

“I was like, ‘These people are much better than me. I’m not that smart.’ So, I ended up returning the scholarship.”

While acting wasn’t necessarily on his radar back then, Traval recognizes hints of his future profession in his younger self.

Traval Talks About High School And Beyond

“If you look at any of the photos of me in high school, you’ll realize something was up because I was always putting on costumes and stuff like that without being an actor,” he observes thoughtfully.

“I’m just one of those natural weirdos.”

A friend inspired him to pursue an audition at the esteemed National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA).

Traval decided to give it a try, yet the institution offered different guidance for the ambitious young applicant.

“They said, ‘You’re quite young. We typically don’t enroll students until they reach 18. Why don’t you step back and gain some life experience?'” he remembers.

He heeded their suggestion.

Traval Eventually Got His First Role

He continues, “I enrolled at a Melbourne university and began studying literature or another artistic discipline. The following year, I auditioned again, was accepted to NIDA, and I thought, ‘Alright, let’s pursue this opportunity.'”

Traval’s breakthrough role arrived in 2003 through All Saints, a beloved Australian medical series.

He started with a small part as a priest before the production expanded his role into a recurring character, Dr. Jack Quade.

“I collaborated with incredibly talented individuals,” he reflects. “It was an extraordinary experience.”

Working At GH Reminds Him Of All Saints

“We filmed 42 weeks annually and produced numerous episodes; General Hospital brings back memories of the work ethic and collaborative spirit All Saints fostered, and it creates a sense of belonging for me.

“I believe that’s perhaps why the transition has gone so smoothly.”

After All Saints concluded in 2008, Traval traveled to the United States to audition for an ABC television pilot.

He didn’t secure the role, and with a return flight to Australia approaching, he had little incentive to remain—until a surprising turn of events altered his trajectory.

“To offer comfort, the casting agent brought me out to a few bars,” he shares.

Fate Struck

“Luckily, I bumped into a woman [Terasa Livingstone] I’d previously met in Australia.

“I had no idea she’d be there, but she greeted me warmly with a kiss and asked, ‘What brings you here?’

“I replied, ‘I’m in town for an audition. I need to head back tomorrow.’

“She responded, ‘Well, how about I take you to lunch?’

“I said, ‘Absolutely, that sounds great. Could you give me a ride to the airport?’

“Over lunch, I decided to cancel my return flight and spend more time with her.

“After roughly three weeks, I returned to Australia, packed up my belongings, came back, and married her.”

Traval Has Since Developed An Impressive Career

Traval has since developed an impressive television career, appearing in Netflix’s Messiah and Jessica Jones, The CW’s Arrow and Dynasty, plus guest spots on Chicago P.D. and Grey’s Anatomy, among many others.

Currently, he’s focusing on GH, where his character’s background and ties to Port Charles will become clearer over the coming weeks.

Fans have already seen Jude’s mysterious first encounter with Britt, and their chemistry could lead to some intriguing developments.

In fact, Soap Opera Spy has explored whether Jude could have a connection to the Jacks family, adding another layer of mystery to the newcomer’s arrival.

Looking ahead to his first appearance, Traval had some exciting plans in mind.

“I have this friend Josh who’s absolutely thrilled,” Traval explains.

“He told me, ‘I’m organizing a viewing party—we’re inviting friends over. You’re starring in America’s greatest soap opera of all time, and we’re going to make sure we celebrate your debut properly.’

“I’m genuinely excited; I’m feeling optimistic; I’m really happy about this.”
