General Hospital Spoilers: Jack Brennan's Shocking Comeback & Chris McKenna's New Role Twist

General Hospital spoilers imply that many fans were completely bummed out by Chris McKenna’s departure from storylines in early September when Jack Brennan was found floating in the Metro Court pool.

Should they brace for his shocking return?

Key Takeaways

  • Chris McKenna’s exit as Jack Brennan disappointed many GH fans
  • Kevin Buchanan’s name has resurfaced in Port Charles
  • Drew suggests The Banner could help Curtis’ appeal
  • McKenna previously played Joey Buchanan on One Life to Live
  • GH could potentially bring McKenna back in a completely different role

One Life To Live Reference

General Hospital spoilers suggest that One Life to Live (OLTL) fans were pleasantly surprised to hear an old and familiar name dropped during the week of October 26.

In an attempt to help Curtis Ashford’s (Donnell Turner) court appeal, Monet Mitchell (Blythe Howard) came up with the idea of some positive PR and media pieces to help the Pentonville prisoner look like a hero.

She approached Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) about Aurora Media covering some pieces; however, he declined.

Drew thought it would look sketchy since Curtis used to be the CEO of the company, and now his gal pal, Jordan Ashford (Tanisha Harper), is.

Instead, Drew thought about reaching out to Kevin Buchanan (last played by Dan Gauthier) from The Banner.

As seen in the October 26 General Hospital recap, Drew specifically suggested contacting Kevin Buchanan to help generate public support for Curtis.

As of this writing, Kevin has been mentioned twice in storylines, which is interesting.

There are never any coincidences in soaps, so could Kevin make an appearance in Port Charles?

Chris McKenna Connection

OLTL fans may recall that Chris McKenna played Kevin’s brother, Joey Buchanan, from 1990 to 1993.

If Kevin were to appear on GH, the show could bring back Dan Gauthier, who previously played the character, or recast the role with another actor.

Joey and Kevin were brothers, so how cheeky would it be if General Hospital cast McKenna as Kevin to appease the fan backlash over his exit?

As earlier coverage of Chris McKenna’s departure revealed, his exit came as disappointing news to viewers who enjoyed his portrayal of Jack Brennan.

This wouldn’t be the first time the show has brought back a fan-favorite actor in a different role.

Viewers will recall that Roger Howarth not only played his OLTL character Todd Manning from 2012 to 2013, but he also played Franco Baldwin from 2013 to 2021, and then Dr. Austin Gatlin-Holt from 2021 to 2023.

The same could be said for Michael Easton, who played his OLTL character, John McBain, from 2012 to 2013, then revived his Port Charles Caleb Morley/Stephen Clay role for a month in 2013.

He’d move on to play Dr. Silas Clay from 2013 to 2015 and return to storylines as Dr. Hamilton Finn from 2016 to 2024.

Meanwhile, Chris McKenna’s recent mystery soap audition has already sparked speculation about where the actor might turn up next.

Could GH decide to do the same thing with Chris McKenna?

Annemarie’s Take

I still think General Hospital made a mistake letting Chris McKenna go! Jack Brennan had so much potential, and I would have loved to see his story continue.

But I have to admit, bringing McKenna back as Kevin Buchanan would be a pretty clever twist. Longtime One Life to Live fans would certainly recognize him, and it would be fun to see the actor return with a completely different identity.

Of course, Kevin’s name being mentioned doesn’t mean he’s actually coming to Port Charles, and there’s no confirmation that McKenna is returning to GH.

Still, stranger things have happened on soaps! If the writers really want to surprise viewers, this would be one way to do it.
