Is the writing on the wall for the British Royal Family? According to one informed royal watcher, things have gotten to the point that they should, “Have the monarchy until Queen Elizabeth passes away and then let’s move on and do something different.”

So says Graham Smith, the CEO of Republic. In an interview with Express.co.uk, he insisted that the public does not want a Royal Family any more and that once Her Majesty passes away the monarchy should be abolished.

That’s rather severe but that is exactly how members of the group Republic think. Republic is an entity that campaigns for the dismantlement of the monarchy and for the Sovereign to be replaced by a democratic, elected head of state.

Should The Queen Renounce Her Royal Title Immediately As Some Say?

According to Smith, “My view is that all the royals should renounce their titles. I think that the writing is on the wall. Why don’t they do themselves a favor and say we are not going to pursue this any further?”

He added, “Have the monarchy until the Queen passes away, and then let’s move on and do something different. I think that if Prince William and Kate Middleton were sufficiently self-aware, they would understand it would not only benefit the country but benefit them.”

Smith has long been an outspoken critic of the monarchy but he could have crossed the line in many people minds by comparing the Sussex’s and the Cambridge’s when saying, “They could go off and enjoy themselves and have Netflix deals and do whatever they want on their own money and their own time.”

William and Kate have shown no inclination on their part to do any such thing. Megxit was a grand and stupendous move, one that is not likely to be seen again anytime soon. Of course, the main difference in the couple’s status and destinies is that William is set to become king while Harry was destined to be the second banana his entire life.

But Smith didn’t stop there, he went on to castigate Prince Charles as well saying that, “We are and I think a lot of people are concerned about Prince Charles becoming King,” noting that his ascension would, “hasten the end” of the Royal Family.

“If we have just one serious issue where the Government after he becomes King, changes its policy to match what Charles has said on the public record previously,” he explained, “then we have to start asking questions as to whether they did that because they thought it was a good idea or because Prince Charles was lobbying them privately.
